Other than keeping the revs down for the first 1000 miles, I read occasionally that an oil change is also a good idea.
Whats the official position? And is it something that many people do.
No plans to track the car, so just normal road spirited driving etc.

Officially it's 10k/1year but some of us have changed earlier once run in was done. It's personal preference. I did it at 2000 miles with some 0w20 Millers (you need a 5l and a 1l bottle), got a genuine filter and washer from eBay and the dealers did it.

Eh? The oil capacity is 5l, you should only need to get one bottle. I filled up from a single 5l bottle and the level was perfect.

My dealer put a bit more than that in it and I'm not the only one. I also thought 5l was enough, only buying the 1l for top up. But they used some. My level is fine too.

Fair enough. I went by the manual, I remember being pleased at not having to buy an extra litre (old car had 5.1l capacity or something equally inconvenient).

Official position, maintain your oil level, service at the recommended 10k/1 year interval.

Unofficial position, change the oil at 1k if it makes you warm and fuzzy inside.

Cars burn oil, should have got the 1 litre 😉

Oil capacity is actually 5.8L (I don't have a picture from a UK brochure, but here is the US one, showing the oil capacity in quarts)
This guide and the manual say 5L for an oil and filter change, however I know of a GR that had its oil changed at a local specialist, where they measure the oil immediately after filling and then again after 15 minutes, and after the 15minutes it still needed topping up after having a full 5L, with another approx 400ml of oil.

;(

Got me paranoid now. I am going to run out and check in a moment, the level was fine after an initial drive.

Did you manage to check your engine oil level since the last oil change? I've also only bought a 5L bottle and due to get it changed in the next couple of weeks.

No, but I just went and checked. These dipsticks are a bit ambiguous, but the lowest side is showing just under the high mark. Took a pic if you can make it out.
