Had my first heart in mouth incident today.😬

Was overtaking a couple of slow SUVs on a dead straight road, 3rd gear and I felt the back end start to go sideways as I passed. Temp gauge was showing 14degC so not exactly cold. I driven a fair few RWD cars in the past and not really had that happen on a straight at higher speed. The road was a bit damp to be fair and maybe there could have been some mud or diesel on the road? Luckily I caught it but maybe I’ll restrict my overtakes to dry roads in future. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Should have flicked the steering wheel, done a 360° in front, and then behind the SUV’s and done a 2nd overtake.

Next time have a dash cam, so we can watch the fun.

BTW there must have been cr4p on the tyres, the road, or both.

Maybe next time🤣

I've had a couple of similar moments when it's greasy. Lovely adrenaline hit 🙃

Tbh I think it's because I don't treat the throttle with as much respect compared to the much more powerful rwd cars I've had before where you'd really have to feather the throttle and keep the wheel straight. The throttle mapping doesn't help either

Very greasy/slimy roads around my way at the moment; I had the traction control light come on and felt a little 'shimmy' in fourth gear (!) yesterday when I put my foot down.

Round my way we've had the first few drops of rain in over a month during which time tons of salt and grit have been thrown down. That probably explains why it's so slippery.

I'll be glad when all the salt is cleared, the weather warms up and the roads are dry.

Yeah first light rain here in about a month, not enough to wash away the cr4p but enough to make it slippy.

First rain after weeks of council dumping the equivalent salt the Dead Sea has down, resulted in every roundabout being sideways. I have had it move on the move too but the last one was the same. Lets you know it's RWD. Relearning where I can go full gas or feed it in gently. Good fun though. Got a right hand bend after a series of 3rd gear left and right corners that opens out. If it's greasy and I'm too heavy on the gas it does a little drift through it.

I am clearly old fassioned as I prefer the back of my car to stay behind the front of the car at all times. My heart and bottom also prefer that.
Haha.. same here.. not in 20s anymore, and I did get concerned when mine surprised me and went sideways suddenly the first time.

I've had it few times now. when I am in 2nd or 3rd gear, and press it hard to rev it, esp. when turning.
[PS - I drive it hard and tight like a sports car should be driven - its not my daily , and only gets driven when I want to enjoy a drive for the sake of it.]
Frustrating part is that the side ways slip doesn't happen everytime, so very difficult to plan and control. This means I cannot do it when I want to, e.g. on a wide empty road with no one around, but it may happen on a tight corner which could be risky, as it did happen the first time and caught me off guard, and I was under 30 mph on a 40 road.

I've done it. 4 up going into Salisbury today. Two 6ft'ers in the front and two 5ft 9-10"'ers in the back. I would say that I just had enough room to drive safely, knee was just missing the dashboard and I was comfortable enough once I'd got in.👍

Impressive.

Did you use fairy liquid or olive oil to get everybody out again?

I've just got home from a morning drive and had a couple of sketchy moments myself. Only once bad enough for the ESP to actually intervene, but a few other times where the back didn't feel very secure, but this was on some fast flowing corners and not really while under power.

Basically felt like I was driving on rather cheap tyres the whole time, despite being warm (10-11 degrees) and dry. We did have some very light rain yesterday and the roads are still salty so I hope that's why, as it wasn't very confidence inspiring, to be honest.

Quite relieved it's not just me.

I think (hope) it's the greasy/salty roads; when it was continuously raining over Christmas when I first collected my car it felt more planted.

Yeah, same. This was really the best weather I've had for a drive since collecting the car, but it's the one where I've felt least confident. Hopefully we'll get a nice deluge of rain at some point to wash the roads down, and it will remain warm enough that the council will give up trying to dump the last of their salt.
