Mounting holes for a more square JDM plate, annoyingly.

That’s a bit crap if they all have those holes showing at the bottom. I remember reading a rumour 4 or 5 months that Toyota UK had ordered the wrong spec of car, but maybe this it, they ordered JDM rear bumper with holes😬

JDM boggo spec so means no sensors too

Surely it’s a mistake/oversight that they have those pilot holes in the bumper (in the wrong place for the UK). I wonder if they have corrected it for the cars that arrive a bit later

The VIN was over 1000 behind mine. Was even technically a 22 and mine's a 23 going by the 10th letter.

Took long enough but it's finally my turn for a go. Was only ready from yesterday, apparently had an EML that needed seeing to but all fine now. Only has 12 mile on it and was the first to drive it on the road. Waited until this afternoon to let the ice clear. Was accompanied but was fine. Was more to get used to seating position and get a feel of it. Was only half an hour or so and with it being new didn't screw it but salesman was happy to let me push and explore. Both into bikes and cars so it was a good drive. Had a good chat about all that's gone on up to now.

Clutch is a lot lighter than my vRS and felt like a learner the first few junctions but soon got used to it. Not sure if hill hold is affecting things. I'll be turning that off when I get mine. When moving it's not an issue. Pedals are ideal for heel and toe. Box was a little stiff but then it's new and was cold. Feels like the last 86 that way. Did a few roundabouts, did a blip down a motorway which felt good. Not as noisy as I expected and rode well. If one word describes this one over the last one it's refined. Everything feels tighter and stiffer. Came off the motorway and took it down towards a delivery depot I know but the roads and roundabouts to it are wide, quiet and a mix of surface so a good test. Gave it a good push here and it came alive and there's loads of feedback through the wheel. In faster bends you feel it moving, so you know it's rear driven but it's stable and secure and can push on with confidence. Came into the last roundabout, 2nd gear and poked it a bit harder and it went into a controlled slide and went up the hill the other side really well. This alone completely sold me. Even joked with the salesman that Gran Turismo got it spot on 😂 . Back though town with worse roads and speed bumps and was stiff but not harsh. Brakes are strong too, better than I expected and could modulate them well. Felt surefooted but still playful. The balance between the two is fantastic. Love the steering wheel. Feels great in the hands. Driving position for me is spot on. Still think it will be a shoe sensitive car, as in forget chunky trainers or boots but that's fine. Pedal spacing was fine for my size 12's

Given it's a new engine it had plenty of go, even if I didn't go near the far end of the revs. Felt flexible and could almost drive it lazily like the vRS. Still picks up well enough at lower RPM and pull strongly once past 3k. Liked it but didn't push it hard as it was brand new. Have to leave some things to look forward to.

Like the last one it's a car that trains it's driver. You have to drive it properly and give it what it wants to get the most out of it. The vRS feels like the comfy pair of trainers. This feels sharp and alert. The front end, even in the cold was fantastic. Will take me a while to get used to how direct it is but once it's under your skin and you really learn it, it's going to be an epic drive. It's quite a step on from a stock GT86 and I knew there'd be a step but not this much. I'm still processing it but I'm totally happy I've ordered one.

Not much more to say that hasn't been said already. I just really want my car now. Had a good chat about what to do for PDI and I've agreed they take wrappings off, since they need to check for damage but not to clean it. Have a plan for that once it's home.

Excellent read as expected @KobayashiMaru86 .

Great to hear your thoughts from a GT86 owner/lover perspective.
It wasn't a long drive but was more than enough. Within the first 1/4 mile I knew it was the one. Thought a lot about my brothers one which is tuned and runs on 18's, suspension mods, etc. It's not as extreme as some but the goal was always to keep it's "86ness" and not take it down a too extreme path as it was always a road car. I love it but he's going to have a shock how much this has moved it on. The engine is the obvious improvement but chassis stiffness is just as big a step and is noticeable.

Took my local demonstrator (from SLM Toyota in Uckfield) out on Saturday. Friendly and enthusiastic sales chap told me he had driven it a few times, and described it as 'an angry little thing'.

First impressions are that it was a lot lower and smaller than I expected. I have no idea why I expected that, but i did. Looks great though, looks purposeful in the flesh.

This car had done 520 miles, so had been driven a bit before I got in. Interior wise, I noticed the quality of the steering wheel, feels terrific in the hands. Like the little swathes of alcantara on the door capping and the binnacle. The rest of the plastics seem fine, it's a typical japanese interior. Controls for the heating, and the TC off and 'Track' buttons. I'm afraid I can't comment on the android/apple carplay whatever it's called, as I simply saw a large square telly that I immediately turned off for the duration of the test drive. :D

I'm a race driver as a hobby, and on the road I tend to be quite cautious and try to drive smoothly - probably because I know how unpleasant crashing is - but I managed to get it squirrelly three times leaving the industrial estate. The roads were slippery - it was 3 degrees - but even so it felt lively from the off. I'd imagine this will catch some people out - it won't be long before one of these ends up in a hedge, I would say.

After 20 mins or so, I noticed the seats - they're great. Very supportive, nicely trimmed, they look good when you're not in them. While we're at it, the rear seats are very small - no chance of an adult fitting in there except for a 10 minute run somewhere.

Pedals are well spaced - clutch bites sharply, brakes are very good, but I have to say the gearchange isn't as 'bolt-like' as i'd hoped for. I thought it might have a bit more weighty feel to it. I'd say it's not as satisfying as an MX5 gearchange, for example. Maybe it'll get better over time.

About halfway through the drive it reminded me of an original Lotus Elan - nimble, responsive, excellent weight distribution, great c-o-g, and 10 minutes later I passed a forlorn looking elan at the side of the road. It's a sign from the motoring gods etc etc etc :D

All in I drove for just under an hour, got 27mpg, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Because it was a demo, and I have mechanical sympathy, there was no red-lining, no insane acceleration, just a nice quasi-bimble about, but it's left me looking forward to getting mine - 28th Dec, according to the sales chap. I definitely won't be selling it, thats for sure.

I've also ordered through SLM Toyota in Uckfield. The Elan was an awesome car so high praise for the GR86. I had a GT86 for 4 years so i'm expecting a similar ride/feel but with a bit more power.

Ah-ha! I wondered who the other 3 were - he's had 4x orders. Oddly, the GR centre in Hastings (same group) has not had a single one. Are you super local to Uckfield? I'm near Heathfield.

I'm in Newick. That's funny, maybe they need to make Uckfield the GR centre.

Right, very local then. Yes bit odd they selected Hastings as the GR centre, tbh. I think it's because it's a bigger, 'ritzier' dealership....

Just been to my dealers in Queensferry, North Wales and here is their demonstrator 🥰, mine is there just not ready to collect yet 😭… hopefully next week 🤞🤞🤞

Just popped into my GR dealer in Gateshead and their demonstrator has arrived NA72SVN, manual, ignition red. Richard was kind enough to let me take it out for a spin and absolutely awesome!! Currently running a GR Yaris circuit pack snd noticeably softer and much quieter cabin, much less road and wind noise. 86 is most definitely not as quick but for me a much better driving position than the Yaris. I personally prefer the rear wheel drive layout as feels a little more engaging but still plenty of grip on wet country roads.

On the down side my order was at approx 10.50 and Richard says info through from Toyota in the last week or so puts delivery on them at around NEXT DECEMBER!!! I seriously hope that proves wrong as its going to be a very long wait after todays drive 😪
