GR Yaris GR Yaris v Evo VII (Fifth Gear)

Those brakes 😬

Nice work getting the exact same car as 20 years ago though!

And always annoys me FG don't say what tyres the cars are on. Especially the old ones, are they the original tyres from 20 years ago? Or something more recent? Big factor...

When people ask about my Yaris compared to my previous Evos, which were largely standard with about 300-320bhp, I just tell them that it does everything better, but doesn't sound as good or look as cool.

Seeing the Evo cartel come in and whinge in the comments about tyre technology moving on etc is amusing. I wonder what they'd have said if the Yaris had a HKS intercooler on the front :ROFLMAO:

its valid point if you compare lap times 20 years ago tires have taken few steps forward.
then again as not racing does it really matter. More slides more fun.

Even though both cars are similar heigtht (1450 / 1455mm), and GR is shorter and 3cm wider, GR looks larger and more bulky. Maybe the rised hood gives the impression its a bigger car even though its not.

Too bad they did not get the roof line more downwards with GR as it would have made the rear view mirror issue resolved.

Owned both. Both awesome cars.

One thing I will say is that the Evo must have been some car... As it took 20 years to find something to compare to it. 😎
I think it’s been discussed a lot on here (and the other place), but quite a few owners of the GR Yaris are those who missed out on Impreza/Evo ownership when they were new 20 years ago, and still had that rally refugee itch to scratch.

I very nearly bought an RB5 PPP but the insurance was a bit eye-watering with only a year’s license! I remember being put off the Evos by talk of sub 20 mpg, although the Evo VI TME was top of my list…

I could have had a 22b; they couldn't give them away at one point and now they are a quarter of a million quid.

Yeah my evo did around 15mpg..... £120 a day in fuel and 5mpg on track. 🤣.. Worth every penny tho!

I got offered a red tommi mak about 10 years ago for 9k. 😬😳😂
Some of my mates could not believe I sold a mint rare rally bred icon and bought.... A yaris. 😂😂

Oh no, he said it was the most powerful 3 cylinder you can buy. Start the countdown for confidently incorrect comments about the yet-to-be-released Gemera.

I am one of those - Wanted an Impreza / evo for ages growing up, finally reached a reasonable cost to insure age and a career foundation to afford them and the prices have gone insane (plus hard fo find unthrashed/ modified examples). So many Japanese cars I’d love to have owned but the Gran Turismo generation of which I am part of has had a bit of an influence on the market perhaps.

Me too - test driving impreza gt as 18 year old made me want one

I remember the call to get an insurance quote for my Impreza turbo and being really really surprised at how cheap it was back in 1995. I assumed they thought it was like a pick-up or something.
The tire choices were really non existent back then, no summer, rain or winters. Just get in and crack on!

mi first car (with 18yo) was a blue '99 impreza GC8 , in 2005 I bought an evo VIII, that nowadays still on my garage (a bit tunned with ap's ohlins & a lot of ralliart stuff) , this June ' 23 I hope my GR CP yaris will be delivered, in my mind there is a unsolved question, will the GR be the perfect substitute and then I can sell the evo, or I might keep the evo?

when i reed this types of words :
"When people ask about my Yaris compared to my previous Evos, which were largely standard with about 300-320bhp, I just tell them that it does everything better, but doesn't sound as good or look as cool." I think its the main problem, I test the GR and feel better brakes better turning sense , and feel so much power for the 3cil 260hp( IMO very similar with the evo with 340hp) but when I go to my garage and take a look at the evo after 18years , it makes me feel in love like the first day, when I see the GR it remind me a egg with big brakes and awd... super efective but with egg lines

It's a bit of an egg but you can make it look 'cool' with big spoilers, big/wide wheels, little lower etc.

Some days I would love it to be cool and loud and annoying, but most of the time I'm very happy it doesn't get noticed, I can drift roundabouts in the snow and people hardly look up and that's perfect for me. It has its advantages with other words.

Keep the evo if you can, you can always sell later...
