MOVED FROM THE OTHER THREAD TO KEEP THAT CLEAR OF THIS DISCUSSION

Hit a pot hole driving home at 3am, and sliced the front offside tyre open.

Needed to call out a 24/7 mobile tyre service to put on a budget tyre so I could get home 🙈

Going to move that to the rear while I either get a single tyre to match the others, or think about changing all four... 🤔

What would people recommend for everyday road use (no track use)?

Still on the original Dunlops?
Yeah, they've been really good though for wet and cold road use, despite the bad press.

Was planning on trying something else, but do I do that now, or get another single Dunlop whilst the other three have plenty of life left in them?

Yeah really depends how much life is left on them. If they were both changed recently, maybe a single replacement is fine. I'm aware not everyone has quite the same tyre chewing addiction I have so they could all the tires shipped with the car.

I'm not sure if the Dunlop's are bidirectional but if they are I'd probably work out which the worst or the remaining three was, chuck that out and replace both fronts, since they have the fun job of both power and steering, rather than just steering.

But maybe that's daft too as if one of the back ones was the best maybe the way it wears is different to usage at the front. I'm sure someone will correct me if my plan is stupid.

Most of the time I'd just replace both. If I was switching tires I generally just do them all at the same time, I don't really like to mix them.

Maybe Big Tire propaganda has gotten to me though

I recently rotated the fronts and the backs, which was bad timing!

Put 4 Pilot Sport 4Ss on there and enjoy 95% of the circuit pack’s ‘improvement’ over standard!

Seriously, they are incredible tyres for road use. Most of the dry grip of a track oriented tyre but with great all weather handling and decent durability.

It’s not worth the cost. I had a puncture that wasn’t repairable for 2 x PS4S I got 4 x Goodyear eagle F1 Supersports. I’d say that’s 99% of the tyre a PS4S is and over the last few days the wet grip has been superb.

Are they about £100 a corner? Was thinking about these, as Lauren and others had mentioned how good they are.

What about performance in the cold (below 7°C)?

Only negative I can see is that they don't have the huge rim protection that the Dunlops have, useful for parking in the city!

A few places in the South East sell each of them for £115 fitted (best price I could find was £105), as opposed to £170ish for the PS4S.

Considering they’re almost half the price they do seem like a good alternative, the F1s:

I’ll probably be sticking with the OE tyres though. Unless they come out with a 5S of course.

Must admit, I’d probably use it as a sign to try it out on 4 new ones, with keeping the wear even as the excuse! Maybe PS5 on a daily driver… 🤔
