GR86 GR86 Delivery Tracking and Collection thread

My concern with demo cars being rolled out first is that we know there are over 100 cars waiting for customer delivery in the UK already. The real figure might be closer to 150-200 as not everyone is a forum member and posts here.

If the rumour of 5 demo cars being available is true and we all get to experience the welcoming treatment from the dealers or Toyota we've had so far, I don't see most of us test driving those cars before March at the pace things are moving today.

Are they gonna wait until every customer had test driven one as well?

These decisions make no sense and take away so much from the experience. It leaves a very sour feeling. Lets hope the rumours aren't true and we get our deliveries this month, I'm sure that will happen...
You've nailed it on the head.

It just doesn't seem plausible to me either, why on earth would I have to wait for other customers to go for a test drive before I can receive my car, which is currently sat gathering dust. That is just insanity. The lack of clarity from the whole process just leaves you continuously suspicious as to whether you are being fed the truth or not. I don't know what to believe.

I feel like the only tactic to get things moving is to harass our dealers until the message is received at TUK to get the cars moving, out to dealers and stop procrastinating.

I'm not in the same boat as a lot of the recent posters as my order was not early and I'm guessing a mid 2023 delivery for me (but who knows) However, an article from Autocar yesterday might raise concerns for others with later orders and that we "might" have a price rise dropped on us. This is pure conjecture on my part and hopefully Toyota will honour the price we bought at, but just putting it out there.

Agreed with all posts that responded to mine, its totally nonsensical to suggest theres a delay to enable test drives.

Just imagine you are one of the GR centres, why would they want to muck about organising, supervising, administering test drives for a sold out car - especially when cars arent neccessarily coming through them or even GR centres.....

I was specifically told some months back, as others were, that our cars were being delayed to enable a simultaneous pan european launch. European cars are now on the road, so that was BS.

Incredible that there isnt a clear bit of communication or anybody stepping up at Toyota to explain the situation, i'll wager if when its ready I were to ask to delay indefinately for 5-6 months then they'd run out of patience quickly.

Lets not forget one of the online sales team even advised a month or so back they read and laugh at this thread....

All they've got to do is get their act together with deliveries and they should be due a £13m windfall pretty soon :p

The test drive ‘prioritisation’ is nonsense in my opinion.

They’re one of the biggest car companies in the world. Getting a handful of cars out to test drive should surely take them a matter of days (if that!).

There’s something else going on here I think which they aren’t telling us. I refuse to believe a car manufacturer that sells thousands of cars a year can be truly this incompetent…..

Finally joining in as my car has just "Left the Factory" - Sapphire Blue MT

Thought I would add to the test drives confusion with this message from my chosen dealer

Before your car arrives, we will get our demonstrator model and you will be invited down for a test drive of the All New GR86. You are not forced to take a test drive, but Toyota Online will require confirmation in writing whether you want to come down for a drive or not before they will arrange a handover / collection date. You will be first on my list when the demonstrator arrives.

Just had an update from my dealer. System still says mid November for me...

Did they contact you, or did you have to phone them up?
If it's still mid-November, I thought there'd be information about payment being available soon.

My dealer has mentioned on more than one occasion that they have been kept of the loop (if there even is a bloody loop), and has asked me to update THEM if I hear anything...

If there was a choice of a few new rear wheel drive, light, naturally aspirated, manual coupes available, I will have cancelled by now no question.

It's the unique characteristics of the GR86 which keep me hanging on in there, but my resolve is diminishing by the day.

I do really want the car, but they are making it really hard for me to continue to do so.

I don't actually believe this story about test drives.

I just want honesty, transparency and candour now. No more lies and obfuscation.

Oh well, 12pm on a Wednesday now so I'm off to observe Prime Minister's Question Time for some real honesty and clarity...;)

I've signed the vehicle order form, but nothing for finance. I had a query on the spoiler which they were responding to, I asked for an update off the back of that and got sent a screenshot of the status, again can't complain about the dealer, they have been great.

Oh he did say it was just my car btw.... none of yours.... I'm special...

Might be time we all phone Toyota UK again. The last couple of times a number of us phoned, it seemed to result in a vague but welcome bit of communication by way of an email to everyone.

If i can find the capacity, I might phone at some point today and discuss this test drive theory as I to have no need for such a thing and agree there's no way all 430 can be offered a drive.

Could push things in the right direction if they hear from a couple of us?

I dont know if somebody posted it earlier. But in one of the latest JP Performance Videos when he got a manual Supra for modification from Toyota he visited the GR Headquarter in Germany. Pretty much in the end of the video they talked about the GR86 situation and the Gazoo Racing guy apologized for the situation and told that it is delayed because of a software update and nothing else. I believe they filmed this video in late August/September and the guy said they will deliver the first cars next month or so. Some german GR86 orderer from here should watch it and translate it exactly for you guys.
Or you can watch it with subtitles maybe.

Has anyone attempted to get some form of courtesy car while their order continues to be delayed?

I'm also now car-less after the finance term came to an end on my MX-5. Not ideal after initially being lead to believe the GR86 would be here in July, then August, September......Maybe December?

It's been said (and ignored) many times, but we just want a little bit of transparency from Toyota so that we can actually make a plan.

@Bennno is currently racking up the miles in a courtesy CH-R I think? :D
Interesting. Think if I asked only a GR Yaris/supra would be acceptable 🤣

I’m in the exact same position. If I had a Pound for everytime I have been thanked for my patience I’d be able to buy the car in cash 🤣

Phoning the online team doesn't really achieve much in my view. They only tell you what they've been told to tell you and that changes depending what day of the week it is. Everyone emailing the Directors and subsequently getting a case number with the customer relations person may have more impact? But probably not.

I don't think I have the energy for this anymore. I was excited at getting my first ever new car and enjoying a summer using it. Six months later it's pissing down all day, my car is no longer new and there's no sign of it actually being delivered anyway. And the fecking app still says the wait is nearly over.

My "continual patience" has expired.

Just got off the phone with Toyota Online GB, confirming that they are still aiming for December deliveries and test drives of demonstrators should be happening mid November. They are awaiting dates from above, once they have them the info will be sent to GR centres and they will contact you for a test drive.

I also asked about the spoiler, the lady who I was talking to is finalising it all, but we should be recieving communications about accessories, this includes mud flaps, boot liners, spoiler, rear bumper, skirts, front bumper and decals and the like which would be dealer fit.

I'm quietly hopeful, almost at the end 🤞🤞
