Well I have asked for a colour change so am going to the back of the queue, my original car is here
And been told 17th oct , now going to be end 23 start 24. That gives Toyota Subaru 18 plus months to sort there shit out with the engine problems, if they haven’t

As my wobble continues with a bit of time on my hands today I decided to have a bit of a look round.....
Not made any decision yet I will probably try & wait until I've had a demo but I could well end up back in a German coupé if the right spec comes along finding myself drawn to an Audi TT for some reason!

Subaru engine problems just add character to the car, I've owned 4 of them so far (Imprezas and a Forester), 3 with the famous 2.5 engine that they used for 10 plus years . I doubt they will make any changes unfortunately, don't think they ever have in the past.

Haha, in all honesty I've wanted a Supra for a very long time.

Couldn't afford the Supra at the time of the GR86 launch, can now
With 6 - 8 month wait times on the 2.0 litre though I'm feeling pretty lucky I was able to get this straight away. For anyone ordering one, they might as well keep the GR order in I guess, although the prices on the second hand ones are certainly coming down, the wait times are no better just more transparent!

I must confess I'm absolutely baffled by BMWs nowadays. What is the 230i spec? I had a 130i back in the noughties and that was a small rwd hatchback with a six cylinder engine. But today I saw a 2xx something or other that looked like a people carrier lifestyle thing.

Not being facetious, I genuinely don't know!

It's a 230i Coupe, 2 litre 4 cylinder 244bhp twin turbo. Same engine as the Supra 2.0, and same 8speed automatic transmission. It's obviously a bit heavier but the 0-60 time is not far off the Supra 2.0. It's also 10k cheaper than the Supra. I did flirt with the idea of buying the m240i which has the same 3litre engine as the Supra 3.0 but decided it was a little too much money.

Thanks @Bonovox , looks like a decent bit of kit.

I remain discombobulated about BMW's numberings (I liked it when a 325 was a three series with a 2.5 litre engine, etc!) but a a compact rwd coupe with a bit of ooomph has been, is and always will be a good thing! Don't suppose they do a manual nowadays.

£10k cheaper than the Supra you say? (heads to BMW website).

Sometimes a good thing - for example ooh I don't know perhaps any catastrophic engine failings have been resolved by then...

Having slept on it I think for now I'm going to do nothing, there was a reason I ordered the GR in the first place as it ticked a lot of boxes for what I was looking for in a car & I think I should at least have a demo before I make a decision, the delays, poor communication & the rumoured engine issues don't help but for now going to wait & see whether start delivering customers cars in October & then review the situation, hopefully Toyota learn something from the mess they've made of this & don't repeat it, the GR86 will need to be better than expected for it to put the shine back in this experience

I think I too will hold out, waiting until customer cars start arriving, and bagging a test drive before deciding further seems like a good plan like you say @Bonzo1930 .

Although @Bonovox has inspired me to look at used manual BMW M240is; it's a beautiful day to take one of those out around the rural roads near me where the streets have no name, hopefully they handle like the sweetest thing!

I will second this, I had a BMW 240 as a courtesy car whilst my'86 was having a repair. Granted it's quick, very quick, but not engaging and I didn't feel "connected" to the car.

Someone managed to drive into the back of me in slow moving traffic & split my rear bumper, so the courtesy car was at the 3rd party's expense. It was a "like for like" policy, the providers of the car were surprised with my answer when they asked if I had enjoyed the BMW

Yes looks smart, even had an additional part at the bottom of the "diffuser" that wasn't on my previous bumper.

New m240i getting great reviews. The new 2 series is based on the 4 series and not the front wheel drive 1 series. So the interiors are pretty much the same as tbe 4 series. I drove a 430i and 220d and both were excellent. I like the song references. Will be a beautiful day on Sept 1st, hopefully.
