So why can't Toyota just send out an email stating an actual UK launch date and say that the first customer cars will start being delivered from then? Surely if that's what they are wanting, they'd have known this already..?
Throwing a launch event for cars that you can't actually buy anymore seems a little odd. I get the hole GR branding stuff but at this point, it just seems like they have one guy chasing chickens in an open field, trying to get them to perform a syncronised dance routine and no one is really checking in on him.

Because that's too simple and doesn't fit with the "new normal" of everything been a complete f**k up.

It's clear as to what the situation is, why they are doing it is another question.

Perhaps because it's a halo model, TUK want to get their PR going when the first deliveries take place, and demo cars are available. It doesn't matter that they are all sold, still worth having an organised event, get some advertising going.

Sadly Toyota haven’t got a great track record with this launch so it’s difficult to believe too much of what you are told. All credit to the online staff but they are only as good as the information they are fed. We seem to live in a world where everything is covered up and organisations are afraid of the truth getting out ? If you are running Toyota U.K. all you need to say is launch date is 10 August all cars will be held till this date. Simple end of story

They are doing all the preparations so that when the first batch of owners go to pick up their cars, there's ribbons and balloons, and champagne, and you have to pick up the keys while everyone in the dealership comes out and claps and stuff. And they have your name on a board and they get a brass band to play while you cut the ribbon off the door handle. And the local paper is there to take a photo of you.

All that takes time to arrange and synchronise so it happens for everyone. And you have to endure it, it was in the small print when you placed your deposit

That actually did happen to me when I was the first in Yorkshire to get my 350Z!

My initial plan was to buy a GR86 & sell my MX5 but If the new Civic Type R launched on Thursday looks good I will get a deposit on one & chop my FK8 & keep the MX5.
The GR will be sold & hopefully make a bob or two.

Had a call with the always lovely people at Toyota Online last week and they confirmed what @PVGR said above.

They didn't seem to have much information themselves, but they told me there was no recall issue or problems with the car. Vehicles are instead being held so they can have more of a bulk launch then having them 'trickle out' to people one by one.

Discussing the chat on forums like this, the support guy said they had learnt a lot from this launch, particularly as to just how much nonsense/ rumours people come up with.

Now is the above true, is it covering for some kind of issue as previous posts have indicated? Who knows. But on the phone they saw no reason why my car, in derby since 5/7, wouldn't be with my dealer within a couple of weeks. It will then take the dealer approx 5 days to do whatever they have to do to it.

Hopefully this puts some minds at ease.

Hahaha it is what it is. Positive news makes a big change from surmising and rumour mongering...
In a few weeks/months we'll all have our 86s' and then find something else about the car to moan about.
