GR86 A request for photos of Ice Silver

Personally feel like Silver is a boring colour. It's like a bad white (to me!). I just don't personally see what silver has over white, it's just less contrast which to me is a bad thing.

But hey, if we all liked the same things. Life would be boring.
White is a good colour choice for a Japanese performance car, I'm a big fan of it. I have fond memories of a good mate's 1999 white Honda Integra Type R from back in the day. What a car that was.

I ruled out white for my GR because my previous GT86 was white and I wanted a different colour! Had the red interior been available in the UK I may well have gone for white again.

Fair enough... with that in mind. You should have gone red/blue then. Silver is too safe. But regardless, even if you're not 100% happy with the colour. It's not the end of the world. You've got a GR86! And wrapping exists :)

You gotta wait till you see it in the flesh anyway. Everything looks different.

Very true!

What is your colour choice?

White...

I had the Club Series Blue: Performance Pack... otherwise I'd have gone with the electric blue :p
This time I'll be going white and black wrap the roof and tint the windows black. Monochromatic, classic (safe option too, if I'm honest) but that pearl paint is lovely...

Nice, that will look great no doubt.

I look forward to when we all start taking delivery and we can share pics of our own cars.

I may be tempted with the black roof myself.

This account on Instagram @evening _sky posts some great pics of his 86 and it does look really cool I reckon…

I went for ice silver based on that Japanese video showing all the colours at various dealerships - thought it looked great with the black trim and wheels...
And I nearly bought a silver GT86 a few years ago which looked so good in person, but just ok in the photos 🤷‍♂️
I thought silver would work best for me as a daily driver prospect. Great contrast with the black details, but under the radar enough so you’re not arriving at every business meeting with a ‘here comes this guy in his sports car’ kind of vibe 😬😜
Yeah, I’ve also thought maybe it’s too safe, but only if you pay attention to all the shit ordinary silver cars out there - if you ignore them an ice silver 86 looks pretty sharp…

I'd agree wholeheartedly with this. I'm in the sort of profession where looking too flash could cause some malcontent!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to respond. I feel much better about my choice now. My silver selection has been validated!

Two of my favourite previous sporty/coupe cars owned over the years were silver so I'm probably biased (BMW Z4 Coupe and Porsche 911 993).
My favourite car owned was an M3 CSL in silver grey, so the ice silver reminds me of that!

I was really torn between it and the electric blue - agree that ice silver is a safe colour but I quite like the stealthier approach and it shows off the features in the shape better. (ie curves in rear arches and trailing edge of front arches, double bubble roof, “bubbles” at edge of front spoiler, sills etc etc)

To my eyes it also has a hint of pearlescent/ blue to it so is more interesting than a straight silver.

Electric blue is obviously flat, a bit like BMWs Laguna Seca Blue and some Porsche colours (eg maritime blue) - it looks fantastic in bright sun but less so in the weather we get here the majority of the time, whereas silver picks up the light and looks great all of the time - not that I’m biased of course!

I was torn between Silver and Grey, but my other car is Silver so fancied something a bit different.

As I will be using daily and for work I wanted something more understated as much as I would have loved one of the bright colours

Silver is timeless in my opinion. Light blue is still aging well and has done since the focus rs and with BMW, Audi and Porsche recently pushing that colour it's very in. For me I previously had a silver Focus ST MK3 that just looked stunning in all light as the reflections were mad. Blues, Grey's greens so many colours. It really reflects the colour around it. I've chosen silver so I'm biased and it is a safe colour. But I also don't want to stand out. At the time of owning the focus they where prime targets for keyless theft. Nobody ever looked twice at mine and I never worried about it and I still got to enjoy the car for what it was. Plus you spend most of the time staring at the inside of it... At least you should anyway! Its a driver's car after all.

There's some video footage of a silver one here: Throttle House

Drag race with some sort of warm hatch Honda Civic I don't think we can buy in the UK.

More proof that silver is the best colour. I'm so happy that I've bought this car for just over £30K. Now I just have to wait until my retirement before I get it!🤪

Agree 100% sir!

FYI silver fans, some nice footage here (US 'Premium'):

Thanks for that, nice clear video, there are some I've seen outside too in the US sunshine, think it looks great.
Wasnt sure on colour originally either, but seeing the black features contrast with the silver paint I think looks great. I dont want to keep the wheels black but maybe move to a titanium finish like the BRZ, if they did the Subaru BRZ Blue I'd choose that or the GRY red, but Im very happy with Silver and 6 months of the year in the UK it wont look as dirty as others. :)

Would look great with a black roof , as would all the light colours 👍😎
Agreed, black roof would be cool - but from looking at a few who have done it already, there doesn’t seem to be a good natural line to begin / end the black. Most seem to have a tapering sliver of body colour on the c-pillar onto the roof which looks a bit wrong to me..?

As it’s looking like I’ll not be an “early delivery” I’m sure there will be plenty of inspiration by the time mine arrives. 👍😎
