GR Yaris Used prices...

I'm thinking of moving on from the Yaris soon to make way for the Gr86 when it finally arrives...
Looking at the online valuation sites for my car (Pearl white, circuit, 2021, 2k miles, Just serviced etc etc) it's coming out at just under £33k And looking online at private sales people are asking around the £35-36k region.
Are people actually getting private sales at this price or are the online buying sites the best direction to take?
Just starting to do some homework on it all before I take the plunge and do a full advert next month.
 
I suspect that there are many cars not sold at the higher valuations, it's one thing marketing a vehicle at a price and another achieving an actual sale. Money is tight at the moment and from my perspective there are not floods of people with £30k plus to purchase cars for sale privately. If you can get close to what you paid form a buying platform I would grab it.

I paid over RRP and am the second owner.. So I don't expect to get near what I paid for it. And for a new car it's not a bad loss at all but being in no rush as such to sell I wondered whether it was worth the time and hassle of trying to sell privately for whatever extra ££ you might gain.

Of course it’s worth the time and hassle….from my point of view. A couple of hours work might be worth £2k. Not sure what you earn an hour after tax but I certainly don’t earn that much in 2 hours. A lot of people take the easy no hassle option which is fine, but I think it’s worth the effort.

There’s no knowing what price people are achieving without asking everyone who has sold, but just price it similar to other private cars and / or a bit less than dealers and see how you get on.

Ask toyota for a trade in value....or an outright purchase.

I would be very willing to go private if I thought it would actually sell for £2k more.
Previous experience selling privately puts me off all the wasted time for in the end probably a lot less!
I will ponder on it for a few weeks and see where values are then 👍
 
Have you considered putting it on Collecting Cars?
You set the reserve yourself and if the car sells you receive the selling price prior to the buyer collecting, so no hassle.

I have looked on there but it's all pretty new to me!
I was hoping for some first hand experiences of private sales really to see if and how much they sell for.. Maybe someone will be along soon

I’ve sold probably 20+ cars privately and never really had any hassles as such. Last car I sold for £46,000, trade offers were around £10k less (not a GRY obviously). It wouldn’t cost you a penny to put an ad here or the FB group, so worth a try I think.

This is my view, even if you’re on £100k a year, a couple of hours to put an ad together (that includes washing it and taking decent photos), plus a couple of hours of dealing with ‘tards and then the final buyer, and you’ve made £500/hour.

If you’re not self-employed write the ad at work and then you’re being paid to do it. 😂

I wouldn’t use Collecting Cars, people factor in the buyer’s fees (which at 6% are £2,100 on a £35k car) and this is reflected in the winning bid. Collecting cars and other auction sites are better for rare or unique cars where you might get a bidding war going. Or if you just want a quick sale.

Demand is still high for these, sell it privately. Major on how careful you’ve been with it and that you’re a fastidious ocd freak that only uses the accelerator after it’s been warmed up for 45 minutes, given a shiatsu massage after etc etc.

Before you write off CC as a bad idea, you may want to have a look at the number of GRY's that have sold on there for fair prices. The buyer's fee is 6 percent, so £2100 on a £35K car. :)

I do fully agree with what your saying, the point I was trying to get across was are they actually selling for £1000 more privately or are people taking offers below?
If I thought I could sell privately for a bit more money that's ultimately the route I will take.

I've sold over 30 cars myself and all but the last one privately. It was a M2 which I tried to sell privately with no success so sold to a chap online that buys and sells for hardly any less than I was advertising it for.
I've had a huge amount of time wasters and sat in wasting my day off for a viewing that doesn't turn up quite a few times.
I think from all the replies on here trying to sell privately is the way to go 👍
 
I would always try and get a trade in valuation first with WBAC, Motorway etc. I got offered my money back on a 14 month old Tesla with 10k on the clock, such is the strength of used car prices. I know someone else that got offered £5k more than they paid on a year old Model X. I've bought a couple of cars on Collecting Cars and the buying process is easy and alternative auction sites are moving a lot of vehicles now. I've not sold on there, but I would strongly consider it. In your favour, prices are keeping apace with forecourts (there were some great bargains on CC a couple of years ago, not now). I've had it in mind to move on from the GRY recently, but I can't think what to replace it with because it does tick a lot of boxes, it's just frustrating not getting to use the car and seeing it sit there.
 
Selling privately can definitely be a PITA, but that’s usually with older cars that might have the odd fault or scratch and the buyers tries it on etc. I think selling a nearly new high demand car like the GRY privately will always get you 5-10% more than selling to the motor trade.

There are quite a few cars on with dealers for £40k+, or on privately for £38k+. I think these are the ones that don’t mind it sitting on the forecourt/their drive for months.

But, a CiP car with red or white pearl paint is £36,530 new now. And completely sold out, quite possibly forever. So a 5% premium over list for a low mileage car, still with a 9 year warranty isn’t that crazy.

Sounds like an absolute no brainier then if you have lots of experience selling cars. Give it a shot. I am seeing similar cars to yours going up for £34k - £36k and being snapped up pretty quick.
As another poster has said, Collecting Cars (or similar) would take £2k out of the deal. That money could go to you with a limited amount of work. It can be a great site for some cars but not something I would use for a nearly new GRY.

And this is the experience I have had more timewasters than genuine buyers, it's much better if you are not under pressure to sell by a deadline. I was in that position with my MK2 RS advertised it had loads of calls offering well under advertised price mainly from lets say to be PC timewasters some of which were taxi drivers.
