My car alarm went off today. Didn't know it was my car, as hadn't heard the alarm before - but had to be mine or a neighbours as it was so loud/close.

Went out, and the car is unmolested. Opened the car up to have a look around and see if anything inside could have triggered the alarm (moths, bees, small children, etc.), but nothing.

Went back inside, and then the alarm went off twice more. The car was parked on my drive between my house and a neighbours. Nothing close to it that could have touched the car, and the sun wasn't that strong on the car (it's been sunnier and hotter). I moved the car to a different position on my drive, and the alarm hasn't gone off since.

I've had the car 11 months, and like I said, that's the first time I've heard the alarm. What could have set it off?

Has happened to mine a few times - I've traced it to my phone power cable which is quite stiff, gradually flopping down next to the gearlever once I've disconnected it from my phone.

Alarm doesn't go off when I remember to move it before locking the car.

Was the car in direct sunlight? Sometimes if the sun is low enough or at an angle where it beams into the cabin or reflects off a surface, it can set off the alarm.

I have a curly cable, and it's always in the same position. Don't think it's that.

This is what I was thinking, but I've parked it there before, in more sun, lower sun, higher sun... 🤔

Was wondering if it could be heat differences in the car triggering the sensors?

Maybe, last weekend my mate left his van parked at mine and the alarm went off we think because of the sun reflecting into the cabin. He's had the van 4yrs and the alarm has only gone off once before.

OK, now parked in a different location, completely out of the sun. The alarm has just gone off again.

Found a mozzie in the car... it can't be that though, surely!? 🤦

Had this on mine. Richard greased the microswitch on the bonnet. That sorted it.
Did yours just start doing it randomly, or was it after the bonnet had been up and down?

Last time I opened my bonnet was over a week ago to put in washer fluid.

I've disabled the internal alarm sensors for now.

Seemed pretty random. Since Richard cleaned and greased it, I've had no issues. That was about a year ago.

Our cars have an alarm?!

Alarms are fitted at Portbury for UK cars. Not sure about other markets. There's a clear sticker on the front windows stating it has has an alarm. Maybe check that?
No sticker and, I presume, no alarm then. It doesn't seem to be a huge concern here, cf. lack of locking wheel nuts.

Think the interior sensor alarm is a UK thing. There's a sensor panel in the ceiling between the driver and passenger seats.
