GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

I am annoyed that Toyota honoured those “Rogue” orders but not those who pre-ordered with their dealer 😤 Anyways , still waiting for my car to be added to MyT🥲
I do wonder how much longer it'll be before I get any updates at all 😂 over 3 weeks since officially ordering (over 4 weeks since I 'ordered' with a dealer) and hearing nothing is taking the piss a bit...

This article seems to imply that only the Forester, Outback and Levorg are affected by the issue and that the production would shift to other models in that time, so maybe it's not all bad news? After all recalls are gonna be done at the dealers, not in factories.
The only reason I'd have thought this would negatively impact GR86 orders is these being popular lines they may have a bunch that are built and not shipped before they found out about the issue and will now have to pull folk off the line to repair cars built already once they have reworked the parts? That's just pure speculation though

My selected dealer still hasn't contacted me. Hoping it doesn't set the tone going forward with them. When I phoned asking about the order process initially they were so annoyed about the whole thing they didn't seem interested.

Nor mine, despite an email and phone call to them. And that was to the sales manager.

My local dealer called a few days ago asking for my ORCA to see if they could give me an update, heard nothing from them since.

I'll be excited until it arrives. I'd never want to get to the stage where ordering and receiving a new car isn't exciting. For those who order often, that feeling is completely lost. Boss just had a new car, top spec Sportage and it's nice for what it is but to him it's another box on wheels. His 4th car in 4 years

That's something I forgot to mention, the guy I spoke with from Toyota said that they would be contacting us basically every month with updates and he seemed pretty confident in that process even for the large volume of orders.

It kinda sounds like they are managing it as much as possible in house and the dealer will only really be included in the last part. My dealer was pretty decent with me even when they got the bad news that it was going to be online only but they haven't spoken to me either, makes sense though with what Toyota told me at least.

I would just like the slightest indication as to when I would see my car (11:05 order) as I would like to get on with sorting out something in the interim. 4 weeks from paying, I don't think it's too much to ask to have an update, even if the news is "you won't see your car until late next year" anything will be better than the silence lots of us are faced with at the moment

Same boat here. Current car needs to be prepped and sorted before part ex/sale and just would like to know the timeframe I have to get it done in!

Well said.

I can completely empathise with how you feel as I also "pre-ordered" the car from my local dealer, but let's not forget that there was no official ordering system for the GR86 at Toyota authorised dealers and therefore there were no real orders to honour, despite what we were led to believe at the time.

Definitely some improvements to be made on the communication front between Toyota GB, their dealership network and the customers, but let's try and focus on the positive aspect of it, everyone with an ORCA reference will eventually be getting what will end up a very unique car in the UK, even rarer than some supercars.

My personal take based on what we've seen so far is that Toyota are reluctant to send any definite communications to everyone at the moment as until build orders are placed with the factory they don't know what the estimated dates for our cars will be. That combined with another online launch of the limited edition Aygo, unprecedented demand and few staff seemingly doing a lot of manual work on contacting customers (and some calling to complain too) and inputting the orders is resulting in a fairly dragged out process with sporadic communication.

As far as ETA for deliveries, I think it's becoming quite clear that orders closer to or past 11 am will become 2023 deliveries. As to getting an ETA on those, I'm not sure in the current car manufacturing climate we can take any estimated delivery dates beyond 3-6 months for granted.

It's not great but I think we just need to accept it for now, as the alternative is to get the deposit back and one of the 1000 people on the waiting list will take your place.

A bit of perspective folks , I always wanted a Morgan as a kid and when I started work saved the deposit , £250 I think, to place an order , the wait list was 5/6 years 😳 , my thought was I’d have time to save up to actually be able to afford it, eventually got a 4/4 but sold it a year later to buy a house. Didn’t have another one for 25 years. Waiting lists for new cars were 16ish weeks before the pandemic , 6 months at the moment is more or less the going rate.

Didn't the wait time for a Morgan reach 10 or 11 years at its max point or am I making that up?

I think my 10.36 order is going to be a 23 plate at this rate. Got an MX5 to see me through the summer but that gets SORN'd around October so will get a snotter until the 86 arrives. I also think the ETA's will start to become more vague along the lines of quarter 1, quarter 2 next year etc. so not even a specific month just a quarter.

I think we were all just seduced by the “first cars arriving in July” line that Toyota gave us a few weeks(months?) back.
I mean, they weren’t lying as there will be some in the UK by then but I don’t think even they knew how “in demand” this was going to be. The simple fact is that the UK loves its crossovers and 4x4 types, where sports cars tend to be picked up by a few enthusiasts so it probably was never seen as a big opportunity to Toyota. The GRY worked well for them because a lot of people like point and shoot hot hatches.
We’re in a bit of a bubble here are we all share the love for a ”driver’s” car but we’re only a tiny number in comparison to all the car owners out there.

Yes, it’s a little annoying having to wait and not getting a quick email to explain the questions they’re constantly being asked but there are definitely a lot more cars with a longer waiting time. I was looking in to a few options a couple of months ago and nothing that I was interested in would arrive before summer 2023 so to have hope that the 86 might arrive this year or early next year is still pretty good.

I was told by my dealer saying he has opened a live case for ordering the GR86 for me but not sure that’s was 100% accurate after all the ordering chaos 😥.

And I agree that we can only wait which we all hate…Toyota communication can be 100% improved. It has been 3 weeks since my last email and it was completed silence even my dealer had the same responses saying they will contact me once they processed which is not very helpful.

Even your massed produced white goods vehicles are taking months to get delivered. Definitely not an isolated issue.

I think it got to 7 years at most but could be wrong, it was down to under 6 months pre pandemic no idea what it is these days 🤔

I placed an order for a Macan in January; still doesn't even have a build slot allocated. 911s are now into 2024.

With a GR86 order at "10:07" I will hopefully see that by the autumn.
