GR86 The GR86 “The Orders / Owners List / GR86 Register”

Thanks @byebyeMX5 , If it wasn’t for this forum lot of us may not have secured an ORCA number and hopefully the car that goes with it. 👍😎

Ive just mailed Toyota for an update, and asked for my deposit back for a pre order from my dealer!! I must give a shout out to my dealer as a lovely lady called me to say it was online only about 10.15 and sharing a few details with her as I wasn't in a position to go online she ordered it for me!! She will certainly get some flowers on collection day...whenever that is!!

So good news! I just got the call at 6pm this eve! Very interesting chat - here’s some of the highlights:

1) The allocation for uk is roughly 400 units. It is unlikely to be increased as the supply chain will not be able to cope with any more in the 2 year period. They were expecting to sell out in Days, not minutes - it took them by surprise! (Edit: the 400ish units are the whole UK allocation over the two years. That’s all folks!)

2) Delivery will be between now and the end of 2023. Build slots being allocated in chronological order, so if you received a confirmation at 11.30am for example - you will be in for a bit of a wait!

3) Waiting list was closed with over 1000 people waiting. Most will not get an allocation.

4) A Number of the cars which were planned for test-drives are now being allocated to buyers. This explains why some have June/July delivery ETAs. You got lucky! 😉

5) GR Centers without 86 deliveries will not be getting a tester.

That’s about all I remember - we spoke for 30 minutes! Ask if you have any specific questions - I might have more info!

Cheers!

Point 2 would suggest that there won't be another sales tranche next year for 2024 cars as I believe the EU regs affect 2024 cars onwards, maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong on that? And maybe 10.30 confirmations onwards will start to see deliveries back end of this year and start of next year.

All guesswork of course and hope to be proven wrong.

Looks like the GR86 is going to be super exclusive then, just to put that in context Ferrari sell around 1000 cars to the uk each year vs 400 in 2yrs for the GR. (5x more common)

Great info - thanks. The only question I have is how many ORCAs are there?

Thanks for some more clarification - certainly puts to bed some peoples over optimistic view that there's a never ending supply of UK cars available. Us that have ordered and confirmed an allocation will surely be a very select club in the UK.

I have a theory about how the ordering system developed for what it's worth and years knowing and pestering sales people in the car industry.

I think the launch and ordering method was going to be fairly normal - so online if you wish or at dealers if you preferred - until Toyota UK mistakenly put up the ordering page option a week in advance and some bright spark found the direct URL and spread it around the internet meaning there were a few seemingly legit and finance approved orders.

Toyota UK could not then put that particular genie back in the bottle due to the credit checks that had been done and the bad will that would have come from failed ordered through their incompetence, so a new online only ordering system was agreed on not long after that weekend. That's when it was announced to be online only from 10 am on the 20th April.

Because Toyota UK then had to put out a press release saying it's online only at x o'clock, that created more hysteria than would have normally been anticipated. People could then all sit there in the comfort of their own homes / offices / parked up on a layby playing fastest finger first at 10am.

It may have not been like that at all but it's my theory anyway. (y)

Yep - he said exactly that! Those with orcas issued around 11.30 Won’t get theirs until end of 2023!

He said somewhere around d 400. He said there were about 50 testers, so I’m guessing a max of around 450 ORCAs reading between the lines!
Pointless having a demo if no more left to buy. Glad they are doing the sensible thing of offering them to customers.

Although that being said I imagine there are a few people that want to try before they actually take delivery?

Nothing more than the car showing as purchased in My Toyota!! Looks like im going to have to spend a few quid on my daily MX5!!
Yep same as me, I was hoping to get away with not having to do some bits to my GT86 before part-exing it but alas, don't think I'll be able to avoid it now 😂
