Not bad for a 50 litre tank, though I don't think the stated 50 litres includes the pipe from the filler cap to the tank itself and any expansion tanks etc.
I had to Google itIs it wrong that I didn't know the tank was 50 litres?![]()
I suspect you got low fuel pressure which flagged the management light, unsure about the latest cars, with high pressure injection if they need to be re-primedWell, here is the full story. After my previous comment about trying to go beyond the refill instruction I was guessing the mileage left… I pulled into the petrol station and stopped prior to the pumps to briefly drop off passengers, at this point car went into a limp mode.. 20 meters driven too the pump, stopped, put 51.2lts in drove off too more warnings and no 4WD. Traction light and engine warning light on. Stopped and checked oil and water. View attachment 4125View attachment 4124View attachment 4125
You'd hope so, or it's a risk too far.I would’ve thought it would all reset after a decent period of being switched off
The crud at the bottom of the tank, is an absolute urban myth. The fuel pick up is from the bottom of the tank too. I remember years ago replacing a fuel pump on a 25 year old MR2. It was absolutely spotless with not a single grain of anything on the gauze where the pick up is. It was honestly the only part of the car that looked like new.I have never run mine below a quarter tank because I don't want to risk running out of petrol on any of the many trips in the car. Plus there is usually a load of crud at the bottom of the tank, that can get into the injectors if run to empty. Also as said above if the fuel pressure drops below a certain level the engine management system will pick it up as an error. Not much help though![]()
Thank you - I was just about to type the same. The crud at the bottom of the tank, is an absolute urban myth. The fuel pick up is from the bottom of the tank too. Fuel pressure maybe the reason for the warnings, However the car didn’t run out of petrol and drove too the pump.I have never run mine below a quarter tank because I don't want to risk running out of petrol on any of the many trips in the car. Probably a small bip as the fuel moved away from the pick up or a small bit of air got entrained in the system, that’s all it needs to blip it.Fuel pressure maybe the reason for the warnings, However the car didn’t run out of petrol and drove too the pump.
It still handled well even in just front wheel drive!
Bloody hell, I'll not let my petrol roulette go to far, good that you managed to sort it without the need of the dealer. At this point I only go slightly beyond the 0/refuel which usually means putting in ~46 litres and around 315 miles, which similar to my Golf.Well, here is the full story. Garage Roulette is null and void though as you chickened out and had a can in the boot.Yeh, the tank full before I played roulette with, this time I used pure man maths and wasn’t going to refill it just yet and hadn’t got my jerrycan in the bootso was lucky. Lesson learnt. I’ll phone dealer and run rhos scenario past them and see if it all adds up from Toyotas side.
But it does prove one thing. Man maths is spot on!![]()
