GR86 What did you do with your GR86 today

Also earlier this week, I took my door cards off looking for a bit of a creak I heard last weekend. Think it was might be coming from the window switch console. Took it out and wrapped it in trim tape. Seems to have quietened it down.

Don't do it. The service book that they'll provide is a generic Toyota 'Replacement Service & Warranty' book. It is NOT the same as the Service/Warranty Manual that comes with a new GR86. My GR86 was missing one from new (the dealership poorly advised the first owner that it didn't come with one and everything was saved online - which is absolute boll0cks), so I paid the £25 to my Toyota dealer in Dunfermline expecting something decent and original to the GR86 ... I ended up with a booklet that you can actually buy from Ebay or Amazon for around a Tenner. It doesn't even mention the GR86 (just the GT86) and is basically just a place to put the stamps. For info, the number on the back of this crappola booklet is PZ49X-S02GB-EN. If you have the original you'll see it has a completely different publication number.

I don't have the service book. I didn't get in the delivery, I asked recently and was told exactly what you wrote but was led to believe the book would be the same, sad now

...and of course, because the car has been off site (from the dealer's), they are now telling me it needs a full MOT redoing despite having everything bar the emissions done two days ago.

This does make sense from a compliance perspective, but they have had numerous opportunities to tell me this.

So the waiting continues.
You know what to do...

Had my car's 3rd service yesterday and it's first MOT.

I asked them to add the missing stamp for the 2nd service and for some reason they overwrote the 1st service stamp with the details of the 2nd.

I spotted that and asked them to fix it and then they made it worse by crossing out the 3rd service, replacing it with the 2nd service and then creating a new entry for the 3rd service.

I told them it looked awful. They said they would speak to their manager about getting a new service book which costs £25.

Am I being too fussy?
Replying to my own post to say that after looking at dog's breakfast of my service book in more detail, I now realise they tried to fix their own error from 2 years ago.

Before the botched correction yesterday, the first stamp in the book said: Mileage 3,897 / Date 16/12/2023

However the car wasn't actually serviced until 22/1/2024 (mileage 4,133) because they couldn't source an oil filter.

So clearly they're in the habit of stamping service books before the work is done.

Toyota Woodford have got some way to go before they plumb the depths of Jaguar Woodford (now happily departed) but there's plenty of time.

Hopefully they can get the correct replacement for you.

Thursdays was Bacon apparently ....what day is sausage? Just for those looking to plan their future Abbey booking!

One of the things that was completed at Abbey was a dyno run on my mechanically stock car at about 15k miles. This was done as a health check as my car was feeling very constrained and has a lot of whine (probably gearbox). If anyone is interested here are the results. Very consistent with @MartinT BRZ. Mark at Abbey said the marginal difference 207HP at hubs vs 213HP pre tune on Martins was explainable by European GPF and maybe benefit of Outbound air intake.

What is super interesting is that these runs have removed the bogged down feeling my car previously had. I clearly had not been driving hard enough and maybe my long road trips had put my car in a funny state. Mark at Abbey explained that on the last runs you could see the air fuel ration had shifted. I also remember a post on here about someone regularly resetting their throttle mapping somehow. I need to find that post..... anyhow very happy things now feel much freer. Early new years resolution.... must drive harder!
Thanks for posting. Those are very healthy numbers.

If we assume a very conservative 10% drivetrain loss then that's 231bhp and 192lb/ft at the crank.

It also confirms my feeling that power drops away very quickly above 7000rpm.

The original booklet is GR-SW-GBEN-03-22. I tried everywhere, but to no avail. I think they are only supplied from the factory with a new GR86. If, by a miracle, you get one please let me know as I’ve been searching for well over 2 years. Rarer than the Holy Grail I reckon …
All this is in my original thread here.

My car was bought new from Hills.
When it was delivered to my house in Bedford it wasn’t until a few days later when I was looking though the manual and other paperwork I noticed that the service book was completely empty in regards to chassis number and where it was initially bought from etc.
Got all the stamps in it from my services from Bedford. Really can’t be arsed to drive down there to get them to stamp it.
I have all the original receipts to cover where it was bought from so it will stay blank.

Well I do have a service book, but it says something along the lines of this will only be stamped in regions without online service records, and it hasn't been stamped. However the online record is correct, albeit a bit sparse on details, and I have the actual service paperwork/receipts.
Some of you guys seem to have really crap dealer experiences - RRG Toyota Rochdale have been very good so far...

Similarly to the run of the 'first service' posts we had on this forum, the recent feedback of the poor service from Toyota for something simple like an MOT/service book update is the reason i'll avoid dealerships like the plague.

As always you'll often hear of the negatives more than the 'fine' / uneventful , or even positives, but the negatives seem to be the norm with our cars! I realise some are 'locked in' with service plans so can't go elsewhere, so fair enough, but must be stressful.

Independents all the way otherwise! Luckily we have plenty to choose from across the UK which specialise in our / Jap cars :).

Yep, one more service to go on my service plan, then I’ll be using my local indy for anything I can’t do myself. I’ll forgo the +7 years additional warranty for the reduced stress of not risking it at a dealership. But no one will ever take care of your car as much as you do.

I promoted the GR to daily driver status today. I purchased an 05 Fabia after being left carless having sold the GT in anticipation of the GR being delivered - only for it to subsequently sit in Derby for a few months. What was meant to last six months stayed for three and a half years!

With tax due next month (it’s more than the GR!) and some repairs likely due in the coming months, now was the time to move it on. Now our lad is at school, there’s no nursery run to protect the GR from either.

I’ve been ‘transitioning’ the past few weeks, so the beagle is now well versed in riding shotgun!

After three years, I’m probably a little less precious about the GR and really want to be driving it more. But I will miss the simple joys of the Fabia!

Got a couple of Veloces but no QV. Lots of Tonales and Juniors, one Stelvio. One old Mito!
The Tonale is a Jeep with a party frock on (we have one!). Mito is a decent little car (daughter has one!). Both not a patch on the Giulia/Stelvio - handling and everything. QVs seem to be commanding a high used price - saw one at my local dealers for about £77k !

In more personal news, I'm officially unemployed or maybe semi-retired, from 19th December (Merry F*cking Christmas!) so I may start to use the Renault Twingo on the drive, for local runs now I'm not commuting. Redundancy package is going to pay off the car!

Knowing that I've got significantly less years to live than those I've already had, makes me appreciate the time to both oneself and the family that retirement has offered. I never worked again after my 55th birthday and it took a bit of getting used to, but I'm glad to have left the rat-race far behind me. Good luck for the future! 🍀
