New member here today, came over from the Pistonheads forum. I placed an order / deposit for a black manual car yesterday and can't wait for delivery!

I think I'm guilty of getting caught up in the buzz - I suspect things will go quickly but I recon you could probably stroll into a dealer mid/late next week and you'd be fine to place an order.

No real UK press reviews yet driving people to the dealers.

Deposit in the hands of the dealer as of lunch time, asked to go ahead if he can get my colour option.

Although I ordered 6MT I would get take an Auto if it meant having the car sooner (this is more out of need as my poor Celica is starting to show her age).

But yes, anyway, Black 6MT hopefully!

Really struggling myself as to which transmission to order on Monday.

Learnt manual of course years ago, been driving an auto for years. Really undecided and only days to make up my mind.
Yesterday was dead set on the automatic, swaying again to jump to manual. Almost wish it only came with one option now.

It comes down to what you enjoy driving and the sort of driving you will do The only time I go to a track is to watch bike racing so that’s not a consideration for me. I’ve just done 120 miles cross country on B roads and 90% of the time was in traffic with no safe opportunity to overtake (no matter what I may have been in) or sat at roadworks. With an automatic you get to take control of gear changes when you want to and let the box do the rest of the boring stuff. The ratios are longer in the auto but for B roads 2&3 will do nicely along with plenty of revs

Put a deposit down for a black manual. Split on colours though, the silver also looks great! I personally think these are going to go the same way as the GR Yaris in terms of scarcity and demand, especially once the press embargo lifts.

I had manual in every car I have owned for 40 years then the auto boxes started to improve and I nearly always go auto now. So much traffic around it suits me most of the time I’m on the road

I had a test drive in the GT86 Auto (the one in post #108 ) to try out the auto , it’s the same unit in the GR86. The box is fine , not as quick as a VAG DSG, but not slow or detracts from the enjoyment, and still way quicker than I could change a manual. The thing I noticed was the torque dip, felt like an engine flat spot. Hopefully the 2.4 has sorted that and it should be a great drive at “sensible” speeds on a B road

Interested in your thoughts on dropping quite a bit of BHP from the GT4, I’ll be dropping 260ish BHP but at least I should be able to use what I’ve got

I'm pretty sure on youtube somewhere in Japan there is a drag race video which shows the auto is just as quick as the manual.

I'm pretty sure on youtube somewhere in Japan there is a drag race video which shows the auto is just as quick as the manual.

Lets face it, none of us are going to be left disappointed whether its rowing through a manual or tapping paddles for an auto.

Or pushing/pulling the gear selector in manual mode

Toyota have given everyone the option of how to shift gears which suits them best , let’s celebrate that and the fun we’re all going to have

The Sapphire Blue is abit of weird colour, it reminds me of the dark blue that used to be on the old corollas and celica's. For me I think its just too dark...

Dealer will call Monday now and tell me my only chance of getting one will be if I order the Sapphire Blue, Watch this space

I spoke to Jemca today and they said they're not taking orders until Monday. Did you find a more local dealer to Reading than RRG Macclesfield to place your deposit with?

Hoping for white, manual myself. I won't vote until I manage to get something confirmed!

I think there’s a key difference between “placing a deposit” and “having your order confirmed” at the moment.

I’ve had a holding deposit in since November time, but my order won’t be formally placed until w/c 11/04 when the ordering system goes live.

Any reputable dealer should be able to take a holding deposit, but I’d go for one that has a GR centre so you can get a test drive before picking yours up in July.
