GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Taking advantage of the first dry day in double-digit temperatures for what feels like months, took if for a blat on some suitable roads.

They recently widened and resurfaced one of my favourite stretches and without road markings it currently feels like a race track :devilish:

Nice bit of road.

If that was in the UK there would be trees and hedges along the verges so you can't see through the bends, and probably a speed camera as well.
 Rant over.

Well, I almost span it ... so it is possible in track mode. Apparently a little too much speed, an odd camber and some damp tarmac can do it.

Car mostly caught itself I reckon, it's hard to remember exactly... passed someone who'd just cut me up, and had launched it off the next set of lights... very silly thing to do in retrospect, don't be an idiot like me... and as I got the next set of lights, they started to go yellow... I felt my rear end start to pivot on me, which was probably not that unexpected considering the situation, and the fact it was a damp road, with crap camber... at that point I was basically committed to going through them as one thing I remembered was braking an AWD like that is going to result in the weight transferring and me spinning out... I pretty much just let the wheels keep spinning until they regained traction a little later.

so did you loose rear under braking ??

Nope, didn't touch them the entire time... I'd already felt the back end start to go as I was accelerating, and made a choice not to touch them when the light went yellow, maybe a quarter to half a second after I felt it start to pivot... something told me if I went near them I was going round, but it was a gut feeling and not based on any real world experience.

So imagine you're coming onto the roundabout with four exits, one at north, east, south and west. You're coming on at south, and taking east. It's a large roundabout, three laner, and is maybe 5-7m higher at the top, than you are at the bottom, so an incline, but also not super huge... as you go round the north end, that's the highest point, and after that it starts to dip down and away towards the next exit (east). What you're envisioning is question mark rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise.

Right after that high point was where the back end started to get away, under acceleration, it's just starting to drop down after the highest point, and heading off to the eastern exit... I felt the car pivot to the right as the rear was apparently now going faster than the front.

I think in honesty it's a combination of factors, the weight transfer, the bending right, the dampness on the road and the person driving going too fast for conditions... I literally go round that roundabout every day at the moment, and have done so in worse conditions, and never had an issue... I wouldn't even say it was faster than normal. I dunno, maybe someone dropped some diesel or something, but I'm still inclined to blame me.

The RP-X work great from cold but due to R90 regulations are deemed 'not road suitable' in UK and EU, which is unfortunate, as in USA it is not an issue at all. But I understand that you need something 'hybrid' in nature for your use.

@DeanoC it seems you are the first applicant, if anybody else would like to test a set please reach out to me

I'm on track on the 11th March if you wanted me to swap a set in on your discs see what they feel like and temps say.

Was that in expert as well or just track?

If I want slide for fun I go track and expert but generally stay in sport without expert.

But when it happens unexpectedly it’s that squeaky bum moment of keeping power down and hoping for the best.

good discretion of events, does sound like someone overfilled their diesel tank and dumped on roundabout and yes good move staying off brakes and gently on power keep it as balanced as possible

I've had a couple of these as well recently with the back stepping out and the car snake about.
It rights itself but it is interesting to say the least. I'm blaming all of the stuff being put on the roads for winter.

Had one coming off a dual carriageway roundabout a few weeks ago. Properly sideway

Not driving like a tit, moderate acceleration and the arse end came round

Easily passed 45 degrees. Tried not To brake, just keep gentle power on

Like I say not driving like a tit at all. Car was in race mode with ESP on

ESP light didn’t come in till I gathered it up I don’t think the car had a clue till it was gone.

Road was covered in dusty talc like salt and the car didn’t like it

Provoked it in the wet in expert in sport and track and it’s never done it before as abruptly and unprovoked.

I think that’s the cause - I’ve driven in the snow in track mode and felt incredible but in the dry with salt on the road it’s sketchy

To be honest, there was a lot of salt down too... I'm still blaming me at least partially on this one, but as I also say... I feel like I've gone round there faster in worse also... I actually wasn't going that quickly either, but still a bit of a knob, fast acceleration, but also not been going that long.
