GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

It’s 14deg in Edinburgh today. We were up at Glen Coe for new year and it was warm but damp and windy. I think we’re getting fewer cold spells than we used to (which is a shame as I prefer the cold!)
With or without expert mode?

Me too. I was hoping to be driving up nice and smug and cosy with a winterproofed car. If I’d not bought them then it would be the coldest winter in years….
but yes, good to know about the PS4s as you appreciate how grippy they are in the context of having driven with something else!I find it bogs down and various reports on here suggest the ECU is controlling boost randomly (probably some theory to it we haven’t worked out) expert seems to do away with that.
I was expecting to say I got my tracker fitted, but the guy is 2.5 hours in to his 4 hour fitting window and he's not shown up yet. Or even told me he's running late or whatever.
Scorpion fitters, apparently, not the best.

They did show up in the end though the immobiliser isn't quite right I don't think. Not sure it's paired the fob properly

I think it actually is working now, but maybe the website is a bit broken. I left the fob in the house and the car wouldn't actually start.

Sorry but, for my understanding, are you saying that prolonged pressing of the traction button (ie all assistive systems off) makes you feel it bogs down and allows ECU to randomly interfere with boost?
I've found it to certainly bog down with traction control on. Very frustrating when cornering with the car refusing to take the turn faster, only for me to realise I had forgetten to set it to Expert or "all off". Expert mode frees up the car and its character; I've found it great for road use.
After having the car for a similar time as you (a year and a half) I've now started turning all systems off, which I feel unleashes the car completely. Everything is more real and raw. Tyres squeaking, tail playful and these magical moments where I exit a corner and there's the unmistakable feeling of driving an AWD rally car with Torsens and every wheel fighting to find more grip and go faster. A nice, gentle push for my driving skills and connection with the car, ahead of adding camber, etc, so I can hopefully be better prepared for any instances where it gets me by surprise.

Totally agree about expert mode making the car more drivable. Even in traffic it is better and when on it feels like the biting point isn't that high either.
I think you missed the “does away with that” without pressing the traction/expert button it bogs down. Never done the long press just the short but it seems to improve the response.
I agree entirely with what you say.
Agree on the feedback, however a little well intended warning on the highlights above added by me for anyone reading along also.
The car can give a great sense of stability and capability, but when inadvertently pushing too far, things tend to happen quickly and at a rather high speed, anything but gentle...
So I would suggest that instead of hoping, is to instead go in head first and actively seek out this limit behaviour and train in a safe place. Most people can catch the first slide, but its getting out of that one as grip is regained that catches most out, aka secondary slide or tank slapper. This needs to be trained on, on a regular basis and on different surfaces, basically you become the stabilisation system and such a system needs to be calibrated!*
Not only does it require training, it also requires the right state of mind and alertness. Something that one rarely has on every single drive in case the car is a daily driver, so I would advice against having all systems off 'by default' and at least leave expert on. It has saved my butt in at least one inattentive moment when I cheekily pulled out a bit too quickly in traffic and misjudged grip levels.
And on high speed runs on the motorway, no advanced driver can beat a stabilisation program that can brake individual wheels... Also on motorways, alertness rarely matches the deceptively high speed... I always at least leave expert on then.
My 2 pennies.
*I learned unexpected things can happen long time ago when a driving instructor/rally driver thought it was a good idea to surprise me by janking the handbrake mid corner going pretty fast on track... I passed the test but he shortened my life there

Yep couldn't agree more. The more grip a car has, and the more confidence it inspires, the more spectacularly it can go wrong.
I've found myself going from feeling like a driving god to a few seconds later, literally upside down in a tree!
I would like to blame the mud dropped on the road from a tractor for that incident, but I should have been more aware of the road surface, and a little less worried about 'the apex'. The stupidity of youth!
Note: This was not in a GR, but a very sticky tyred, very silly car

Not quite 'Today' but over the weekend l completed 621 careful (and often frustrating) miles to run her in - just in time to attend an excellent driver training session at Drive Limits in Epping, London yesterday. There were only 3 of us taking part so we got maximum driving time and first rate training from Mark.
There was no competition as such, but compared to the BMW M2Competition also taking part, the GR's traction and grip is just out of this world. I managed to get the back to slide in the wet of the morning session but that was being brutal with it. As the track dried and the fog lifted in the afternoon, the GR just tucked in and went round corners on rails.
I can thoroughly recommend Mark and Drive Limits, and l am looking forward to putting some of the skills learnt into practice at the Toyota Track day at Oulton Park in two weeks time.
What else? Oh yes. I replaced the driver's side grab handle with an Ali Express sunglasses holder. A two minute job once you have read the posts from other who have taken a similar route. Not that l needed them yesterday - they will probably stay there until they come out for Sticky's Euro Tour next June.
