GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Some four wheel drifts on asphalt - epic fun

You’ve heard of TOM’S - decided to fit my new DAVE’S front bumper this evening, complete with improved grille inspired by lightweight raspberry tray packaging.

In all seriousness wanted to do something to protect the styrofoam and metal behind the massive gap in the grille - found a deer levitating it’s way onto my bonnet this morning while out for a drive (it jumped before coming onto the road and landed on the bonnet then bounced off as I was going up a hill). It knocked every part of the plastic grille out too when it kicked out as it rolled off, so spent the evening with Loctite fixing enough to give some integrity in order to drive to a dealership tomorrow to ask about lead times and cost of a new one . My main frustration is the crack on the bumper itself as otherwise may have just been a grille replacement but really I’m very lucky as so many people write off cars with deer accidents. Decent crack on the other side near the GR badge too (side of initial impact).

When I got back and told the Mrs she ran down expecting a massive dent and things hanging off, so been really really lucky. I think that my ‘new’ plastic cover is merely where the tow hook insert goes, so even more frustrating that the damage was mostly confined to that part but still spilled over onto another section! I might end up living with the main bumper damage for a little while depending on price and lead times…or saving up a little for an actual TOM’S one.

Woow, that was not nice but glad it is not worse.... I think the Toms front takes away the good looks from the GRY, but thats me 😀👌

Yup, that could have been _much_ worse. Not much to contribute a part from crossing fingers you'll get is sorted quick! And not sure how it works in the UK, if there's insurance involved, how bad the other side looks... But I'd be tempted to save that broken bumper. Might be fixable (grp & patience?) and/or useful for some project someday?

Like you say, unlucky and lucky at the same time.

Same with my badger confrontation.

To give you an idea of the cost of repair, mine needed the bumper, grille, offside fog-light and wheel-arch liner, and some clips here and there replacing. They then had to colour-match the pearl white paint, and also make sure the radar stuff and parking sensors were all calibrated correctly.

Claimed on my insurance, and the cost of the repairs was £2.4K. Looks as good as new now. Again, the same can't be said for the poor badger.

I thought of you with the badger incident when I saw it! The damage tbh is about equivalent to a badger. Good to know about the cost - counting my blessings that the fog light was ok so hopefully just the grille and bumper, plus I’ve got good old plain cheap white and no parking sensors but

Painting I imagine will add to cost but It’s more frustrating having to find time to take the car in, arrange it all etc, as I wish I could just get a painted bumper delivered and fit it myself. Also didn’t realise Zunsport grilles are literally just a piece of metal rather than including the surround (I think!) so probs a no on that front.

Had a drive and tried some driftig but i sucked. It was easier with my Focus RS.

After that the wheels needed to be cleaned.

Should get the hoist this weekend to fit the xforce system, fitted the wiring so it will be right to go once the exhausts are changed out.

Instructions for the harness are very basic and almost useless. Easy enough though, followed the factory cables up the left hand side under the trim and mounted the control unit on the trim under the glovebox. I will punch the cable through the grommet once the exhaust is done and wrap the cable in spiral wrap to give it a bit more protection. At the moment I have left the 12v plug as is but will wire it permanently with a fuse to a separate switch.

I started pulling the centre console apart and put four holes in my hands so after cleaning the blood off the trim I will leave this until later. I think I will need to google how to pull that section apart using finesse instead of brute force over ignorance. It lets me get this first...

These are aftermarket switches.

Or Stedi.

I have a lightbar switch as well. You guys though will need zombie lights...

Went for a short drive - seems like rpx pads dust less than stock, and disc are getting some violet colour. Not pushed hard at all

These are 22x22 mm and on the GRY fit into the side panel, right?
Wonder if anybody has a source for switches / ports in what seems to be 22x27 mm, like the USB port?

Couldn't do anything specific as the wife has the GRY until tomorrow. Compensating by assembling a small pile of goodies for the thing.
Really like the Kovvar mats, had the "duogrips" for several cars now. Cheap, look cool (Pirelli floor for ants :)) and last OK.

Left it at home (again), this is definitely MX5-with-the-roof-down weather.

What with the weather, and using the old estate car as a van for tip runs, the Yaris is starting to look a bit ornamental.

FItted the Tegiwa Mirror Riser. Instantly improved the driving experience. Still not as good vision as other cars but way better than the original position.

I fitted one of these and felt that it had improved the driving experience.

Then realised that the mirror position in the MX5 was even worse.

Then when trying and failing to fit a smaller mirror I ended up going back to the original mirror position and am finding it fine.
