GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Not sure if I'm just getting old, but my HKS Hi Power Spec L exhaust was just that bit too loud for me. Genuine embarrassment going past the neighbours houses when setting off for work early or coming home late.

Managed to get a good deal on a Fujitsubo Authorize R, which it turns out is just the right amount of OEM+ for me. It's subtly sporty, although now I can just hear the road noise all over again :LOL:

HKS exhaust will be on the marketplace shortly for anyone wanting a lightweight exhaust but doesn't mind it being on the louder side.

new plugs, brake fluid refresh and brake cleanup.
Gearbox felt shortly quite stiff after track session so need to do the box fluids at some point.

Looks like I'm getting new pads pretty soon, especially considering I have a 5 days roadtrip planned through the Swiss Alps next week, proper way to finish them off :). They lasted about 2 years and 15k km, dunno if it's good or not, it's only driven on road, a mix of commute and spirited driving when I get the chance.

I'm mainly looking at what's left before the pads start protruding out of the caliper, to me it shouldn't go beyond that even if there's material left on them, and it's a daily driver too so I can't wait until the wear indicator starts touching the disks, as I can't just immobilize the car waiting for parts, I have to anticipate. Right now there's still some life left in them but considering I'm gonna drive a whole week in the mountains I think I'm gonna have to replace them right after that so in two weeks just to be safe.

I think my driving style is definitely a factor, not meaning I drive it "properly" or "better" than others, but when I go for a spirited drive I often find myself in situations where I have to brake earlier or harder than necessary approaching a curve on a B road for safety reasons, giving more time to other drivers to understand what I'm doing, no visibility in a corner meaning I have to give myself an additional margin of error in case there's a car coming in front of me that's not keeping its right properly, I think the way I apply the brakes is simply not optimal because of all these little things, but I don't mind, I'd rather be extra safe while still enjoying the car within my skill limits.
 
It all depends lol, i am just glad i have not had the need to shell out 1200 eur for new discs yet, those pads and discs even did Stelvio and Grossglockner and that was a lot of braking going down, and still brought me home 2000 km, lets just see how long can i ride them for xD
 
Coil packs pretty much either work or they don't. I doubt you will be able to tell the NGK ones are any different from the Toyota ones.

I bought some cheapies to have as spares too.

That's my reasoning. Can't see there being much difference between NGK and Denso.
 
Best roadtrip ever, about 1000km of Swiss mountain passes and roads in 3 days and the car has been flawless, at high altitude it started to feel a bit laggy but there was still plenty of power to pass cyclist and RVs safely uphill.

But for the first time the car didn’t feel « overkill » which was the best part for me, it felt just adequate, going up the oil reached 120°C quite easily and I discovered new smells I’m not used to as a road only driver lol, going down with a bit of pace the brakes got quite hot quite fast, I’m jealous of people who get to experience their car like this on a daily basis, on top of that they also get proper snow there, they really have it all.

On the last day the brakes were getting really noisy though, either they reached the wear indicator or maybe the anti squeal shims are cooked, I ordered new pads and shims just to be sure.

To celebrate a new job I decided to treat to treat the car to a cheap part from the GRMN edition along with other bits from japan

It looks like something from AliExpress but it reflects my current mod budget... I also then went on to break one whilst fitting. Then next GRMN part will probably be a bit more robust
