GR Yaris What did you do to your GR Yaris today?

Drove it the wrong way round a roundabout into the path of oncoming traffic.

In my defence, there were roadworks at the roundabout with 3-way traffic lights that weren't working; one way was always red, one way was always green and the third way wasn't working at all.
 
Strong flex Torque Mount insert turned up today. Appears to fill more of the void compared to the Powerflex offering. I will get it fitted this weekend if I get some time to myself.

During the last trackday last year my brakes started to make a lot of noise, but not so much vibration, I guessed warped discs. But then it was winter, when the brakes were cold they were OK.
In May I took the car to the dealer, explained the issues and asked if I could get warranty, but since I didn't schedule a check, the only thing they could do was to have a technician drive around with me and check the noise. The brakes were cold, so no noise/vibration. But the pads were around 2-3mm, so he suggested that I should try to change the pads and check what would happen.
So last month I got some Endless pads, and went to the track again, now the warping is really bad and you can feel it almost all the time with hard braking. So I schedule a visit at the dealer today and took the car.
They wanted to charge me 150eur for the time to check it, and if the warranty was approved I didn't had to pay. Since I don't really know if warped discs are covered by the warranty (a friend of mine got the warranty for it, but he almost didn't drive the car at all) I spent 15min trying to talk to them and understand if driving on the track and everything would not "void" the warranty for it. At the end I took another technician for a drive, he said that the discs are warped (obviously) and since I don't have OEM pads, warranty is voided...
I said that I had already been there with that issue a couple of months ago, with original pads, but they said that since I didn't got the official check(paid), that doesn't matter.

Anyone had similar issues? Both warped discs and dealer not approving warranty because of aftermarket pads?

At the end I will probably change back to the old used original pads that are still here, and going to another dealer. From their words, since no one did an official (paid) check, there is no proof that I used non original pads.
If that doesn't work, I am really inclined to just never go back to the stealership, f**k the warranty and save some good money in service
 
I’m sure discs are classified as a consumable part & wouldn’t be covered under warranty unless there was an obvious manufacturing defect. I’m afraid you’re going to have to swallow it & get a couple of front discs from what you’re describing mate. I think Tarox discs would be a good option to go with your Endless pads. I've not heard of anybody suffering warped discs on a GRY. Not saying it can't happen, but it really seems like it's not 'a thing' with the car.

Also, if it is "noise, but not so much vibration" then it wouldn't be warping anyway?

What I have experienced - and others have too - is some vibration/judder when the braking system comes up to 'proper' temperature. It really worried me the first few times it happened, but it disappears after a little while and after it, the brakes stay as strong and fade-free as always for the rest of the journey.

Dunno what could cause it - maybe the pad material undergoes some phase shift/outgassing and deposits something on the discs - but it happened quite frequently when I ran the OEM pads in demanding conditions e.g. cracking on over multiple Swiss mountain passes.
 
First wheel damage :cry: Happened while parallel parking, I always use the rear wheel as reference and didn't notice the curb was broken at the front and a pointy bit was sticking out, hence why it cut through the sidewall too.

The scratch isn't too bad fortunately, and I have 2 brand new forged wheels in stock in case it happens, so I'll have the wheel replaced first so I can search for a place where they can do a smart repair and match the paint, which won't be easy, most place will only go for a full respray.

Had some nasty vibration under hard braking during a track session this spring. Started fine, but by the end of the session the vibration kicked in and got even worse on the drive home once the brakes cooled. Next day I was already browsing for new front discs… but after giving the car a proper wash and blasting the wheels with a pressure washer to clear all the brake dust, the vibration almost completely disappeared. Couldn’t stop grinning on the way back. Pretty sure it was just pad material buildup somewhere in the brake assembly.

Excessive brake dust should be listed as an extra feature on our cars :D
 
Last week I did the first 10k service at the dealer, no surprises there 🙏 But before taking it in, I had to clean the engine bay. After Estonia WRC it looked absolutely terrible, and I couldn’t hand it over to a mechanic in that state.

With fresh oil in, I wanted some fun on track, but noticed my front pads were almost gone, so I swapped those out. Yesterday I was back at Porsche Ring in Pärnu, had an absolute blast. Every time I push this car, it reminds me just how much fun it is 😍

Now my original PS4S tyres are pretty much done. The middle tread still looks decent, but near the sidewalls it’s not looking great and and you can definitely feel it on turn-in, even at normal road speeds. I’ll probably be changing the oil again soon too, since it got pretty hot yesterday (126°C).

Btw, how often are you guys changing diff oil? I did mine at 5k km, but I’m thinking it won’t hurt to do it again sometime soon.

I’ve also had this but it’s gone away so agree it’s likely dust build up. I’ve jus got some brake cleaner to clean them up before revisiting the Nurburgring next month.
 
TRD lip spoiler fitted today. Yeah I know I’m not the first but love how aggressive the front end looks now, and even though it’s not lowered, it gives the car a wider and lower appearance. Need to give my dusty car a much needed bath over the bank holiday weekend!

I keep meaning to get one of those for mine - they look great. Mine is lowered though, which is why I've been hesitant. Now you need the side skirts!

I would recommend diff oil change every 10tkm if you track the car. But it all depends how you drive it.
 
Cusco Differential bushing collars update.

Originally installed about four months ago. Unknown how much I've driven since then, but the car now has 14K on it.

Driving the car yesterday, I noticed a little "clunk" coming from the rear of the car with the slightest on/off throttle. Got it up on the lift today and started to shake things around. Took a while, as I went through all the usual suspects first, even checking the torque on all of the differential mounts. Turned out to be the rear Cusco bushing collar. This collar connects the center bolt and bushing to the outer bushing case, essentially rendering it "solid."

Anyway, with a solid push up or down, I can get it to make the noise, total movement between up clunk and down clunk 0.1mm. So it would seem to have opened a little. Noise doesn't bother me, but not knowing what a noise is sure does... :)

Kind of a nothing burger, but something to be aware of if installing this thing. It'll likely make some noise after a bit.
