GR86 Unresponsive ignition

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this...

Just went to start my GR (having just driven it) jumped back into car, hit ignition, car fired then died almost immediately, but ignition still on - all the dash lights on. Start/stop button became purely decorative at this point, pressing it did nothing (tried pressing and holding the start/stop button too for some reason, also nothing).

Tried locking/unlocking car - nope - ignition still on, but but runnning - tried from inside and outside car - nothing (apart from looking comical to anyone watching)

The only thing that seemed to work was turning the fob off (lock and unlock x2). This shut down the car and it started fine after that.

Any ideas?? - will call dealer, but chasing a lone, not (yet) repeatable incident I'm not sure they'd know where to start.

I'd appreciate any input.

Might be the immobiliser, also does the car register you pressing down the clutch?

I think it must have registered the clutch pedal or it wouldn't have started even momentarily.

Immobiliser playing up might be the answer.

I guess it's part of the charm - that raw 80's feel - no alarm, immobiliser that won't always let you start the car, upgrading the speakers, buying a crooklock...

Still love the car though - just wanted to know if this is a thing, which it would make life easier for the dealer rather than chasing an intermittent unknown.

I had an incident which has only happened once. Went to run an errand so a short 5 mile drive, left the car for about 20 mins got in started it with the usual procedure with the revs rising to about 12-1500 and it dropped back a bit quicker than normal to nothing, just cut out. Restarted it and everything was as normal. Very odd.

well, as long as it doesn't rust like something from the 80s the rest you can live with.

Have you tried your spare key? Might be a dodgy transponder, its an easy one to try.

Good idea - hoping it's just a one-off.

Hasn't put me off the car, although I reserve the right to change my mind if it becomes a habit.

Just need to find somewhere to attach the whip-lash aerial and have the sun-strip made up
