GR Corolla Toyota USA GR Corolla landing page is 'live'

Wow they only went and did it... Surely it will be a GR Yaris killer to some people who want a more practical car!? o_O
I thought they would have done a FWD car with more power so not to step on the GRY's toes...
šŸ˜…
There’s no stepping on toes as they are not sold in the same markets. No Corolla in Europe, no Yaris in the US.

Both are sold in Aus...

Small market tho, not much care lol

FWIW the GRC will be built at Motomachi its been said, so perhaps GRY production is ended anyway.

Yeah be interesting to see them compare when it's released... šŸ‘€

We all know which will be better :D

So manual only so far. Will be hard sell in USA. ^^

Pretty much carried over from GRY as expected.
There are a huge number of ā€œenthusiastsā€ in the US who are fanatical about ā€œstick shiftingā€ , mention an automatic on some forums (I’m thinking GR86) and the abuse that will be directed at you (not to mention assault rifles, which apparently can’t be displayed easily in the back window of a GR86 šŸ˜‚) will be significant. The ā€œstick onlyā€ will get the GRC extra kudos in the US , as it’s only for ā€œproper driversā€ and drive sales until the 8AT comes along, so that everyone who ā€œdoesn’t know how to drive properly ā€œ can enjoy one too šŸ¤”

That depends on what you’re looking for šŸ¤”. The Golf R 4 door outsold the 2 door (when they made one) by about 10:1 despite being Ā£1k more expensive and heavier. The DSG significantly outsold the manual and was over Ā£1.5k extra šŸ¤”. The GRY is a very special car , but how many owners actually use them as their one and only car šŸ¤” Yes there are some, but I’d be surprised if 1 in 20 GRY owners use it as their only car (for some it’s number 3/4/5) šŸ¤”. The GRC would be a genuine contender as your one and only car capable of doing everything you want and still offering a great ā€œweekend carā€ šŸ‘

Got to agree with your comments regarding a daily and practical car. I would have a Corolla in a heat beat to replace possibly my RS.

I think it would have genuine ā€œmainstreamā€ appeal with a sub Ā£40k price for a Circuit Pack car with a decent sound system , throw in an 8AT option, 10 year warranty and Toyota wouldn’t be able to meet demand šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø There isn’t a genuine AWD alternative at that sort of money. Mercedes’ shift plenty of AMG A35s at well over Ā£40k and no where near as entertaining as a GRC would be šŸ˜‰

That rear bumber looks massive. must add extra weight, in addition to three exhaust tips!
Funnily enough they have kept the rear window wiper though it is kind of extra ballast.. Marketing vs Rally heritage.. oh well.

I think lots of folk would buy it, one reason I got rid of my DSG Golf R was it was so bland , it did everything everything exceedingly well but was as exciting as watching grass grow (unless that’s your thing) ā˜¹ļø The GRC even with 260ish bhp , big brakes , decent suspension , and the ability to genuinely split power distribution (not Haldex on demand) would be a great option on U.K. B roads. Throw in a decent 8AT and whats not to like, one car does everything you want šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

if you could run the auto in manual 'gear lock' mode it would mostly do its job for easy cruising.

Apparently ā€œThe Power of Threeā€ and Toyota having to have 3 GR models and no more to keep the whole GR program in harmony and stop it disintegrating is real and not something made up on the hoof by the well reported ā€Toyota spokespersonā€ to a question by a journalist (my original theory) as to why the GRC would not be sold in Europe. The good news is to keep the GR harmony Toyota will have to bring the GRC to Europe in 2024 as the GR86 will be no more or the ā€œPower of threeā€ will be shattered , unless they manage to improve it through their rigorous ā€œcontinual improvement programmeā€ it by then to make it more efficient with the Power of Two , or we get the first GR BEV šŸ˜‰
