Simple enough poll.

Thought it would be a way of Toyota UK understanding the GR86 owners (to be) sentiment.

At this point, I think Toyota are of our thoughts on this specific buying process. I'd definitely think twice about ordering another car online in the future and it will most likely put me off the purchase.

Disappointed, purely because of the radio silence. If only we'd been given transparent updates about the reasons for delays, then I would have been happy.
But so far, apart from the app status, the only information I've received is second-hand from this forum, and that's after people have had to chase for updates.

Even now, I'm sitting here a bit annoyed that all European cars were being held for an "update" - yet, I've heard nothing, despite the fact I now know for a fact European cars are making their way into the hands of customers.

I can't really get too worked up, if I'm honest. You could express disappointment in the performance of TUK, but who really knows what Japanese Head Office is telling them to do?

I shall refrain from answering this poll until I actually have the bloody car - like stocks and shares, performance may go up or down!

I've said before elsewhere on this fine site somewhere: I'll only ever buy a physical car that I can see and touch in the future.

Disappointed, as other have said by the silence which was deafening when all the initial hype after the Spain test disappeared. Any comms have been us pushing them, nothing the other way. I even had to phone them for my phone call. Same with dealer but still early days with them yet.

As my Dad always says, there's no point worrying about it. What will be, will be so I'm remaining fairly calm for now. If I desperately needed it as my only car it maybe different . That said I'd like it within the next month or so. Winter is coming and I'm not riding the bike in the salt and ice. It's also near 12000 miles meaning I'll be due a valve clearance check which isn't cheap and was hoping to hold off until next Spring and I'd do plugs and air filter the same time.

I really hope once we get them, this becomes a distant memory and those of us who stuck it out really do enjoy them. It's bad enough I'm dreaming about driving it in the snow but that's dairy before bed.

Disappointed probably sums it up although I'll also not buy another Toyota if it's online ordering only. I'd rather have a dealer who I can go and harass than an "online retail" team who have no interest in building and maintaining the customer relationship and who don't have the information (or have been told not to give it) to answer questions.

The whole online process has been a shambles. The initial failure to communicate to all dealer staff that "normal" orders would not be possible, the site going live a few days early for the GRogues, the welcome call being delayed by weeks (months?) for many, the lack of promised monthly updates, the inconsistent communication, the dishonesty about the delays, dealers giving duff information about deliveries, the app saying "the wait is nearly over" for four months etc etc. And even now we're only getting information when we chase them up - there should've been an email to all customers today saying they've sorted the issue, cars on the way shortly etc but we've had nowt. What makes it particularly frustrating is that it's all very basic customer service and communication. I can only assume it's the Toyota way to keep customers in the dark. Maybe that works in Japan, I think UK customers generally prefer honest consistent communication though. Without this forum I think many of us would have no clue what was going on with the cars! I expected better of a company I perceived as providing good customer service.

Oh well never mind, some cars should be here soon and we'll all be whizzing around sideways everywhere (if the update allows) and the last few months will be erased from our brains.

Utterly disappointed in the customer service from Toyota UK. Taken every shred of excitement away from buying a new car, if I didn’t really want this car I would have cancelled a long time ago based on the below.

- Cancelling dealer pre-orders last minute
- Dealers had shocking amount of information. I was guaranteed a July delivery and told it was build in GR centre by Toyota not Subaru
- Dealer suddenly stopped returning calls when they were cut out of loop. Didn’t realise it was online only until I found this wonderful forum.
- Online launch with very little information
- Site going live early and subsequently placing early orders at front of queue. Which wouldn’t be an issue if the deliveries weren’t so far apart.
- Stating cars will be delivered within 12 weeks when ordering
- TUK archaic system of physically having to enter sales one by one manually. Allegedly this caused no delays for us and orders are chronically done, but did that push UK orders down in the pecking order on a global ordering system?
- Not even getting a welcome call for 12 weeks.
- “Unprecedented demand” isn’t an excuse when the car was already launched and hugely popular in other markets. Also with the number of dealer pre-orders they had. That’s just poor planning.
- No monthly updates as promised
- No clear delivery dates with contradictory information
- Bizarrely replying to emails saying ‘if you would like to cancel we understand’ as a go to response when cancellation wasn’t mentioned
- Increasing service cost by more than 50%
- Still no clue when I can get a test drive or what accessories are available
- I understand that we’re in a pandemic with shortages etc but let’s be serious we’re talking about just over 400 cars in the UK. Have X available to order in each colour (based on popularity in US/Japan) and block out build slots if needed.

Some very basic things missed with no recourse. Such a shame as it’s a very special car! Rant over.

"- Increasing service cost by more than 50%"
This news has passed me by - what are the details?

I'm a bit fed up with the lack of the promised monthly updates, especially given that they were something mentioned on "the" phone call were by way of an apology for the lack of news up until tha point. It's been radio silence since then, except for an email I got about all the GR Yaris rave reviews I could read whilst I wait for a GR Yaris (I joined the waiting list earlier this year, just to see what would happen).

Initial service costs from the original GR86 page

Now all GR range service costs are at the same price as below

An interval and full service would cost £500 and now it’s £750 for both.

i have a gr yaris and was interested in the gr86 as the "next car" i would like to have but there are limited numbers "engine issues" and the cars are not even out yet...think my cayman s/gts itch is going to get scratched shortly

I emailed Toyota just asking a few questions and I had a call back yesterday, very helpful lady and very apologetic for the lack of news.

My expected build is Q1 next year give or take, with delivery perhaps around Summer but they said they are guessing and can't really give confident dates until the build of your actual car has started - after that point all of the next steps are known and so the timescales are much easier to forecast.

The delays to the customer handover of cars already in the country are because of some software tweaks they are making to something to do with the braking system (so could be TC maybe, who knows) for European/UK cars, but once that's done they expect to be able to release all the cars that are already in the country pretty quick, and the good news for the rest of us is that the handover delays aren't affecting the pace at which they build the remaining cars. There was no mention of oil sump excessive sealant problems, I didn't ask.

There will be demo cars at GR centres 'soon' (and good news - more demo cars than had originally been planned), and those folks who's cars are already in the country are probably going to be invited to try the demo cars first, just in case they don't want to take receipt of their car, and after those early birds are done then the rest of us in the queue should get invited to try the demo cars too. I don't know what happens if you contact your local GR centre before getting an invite from HQ to book a test drive.

Every time I contact my dealer, it's almost an auto response where they say to contact Toyota GB as they don't know anything/ want to know

Tried to ring my local dealer to ask for latest with demonstrator cars with no luck, every time they hear the word GR86, it’s “unfortunately can’t get through to sales team, can I take your number and we’ll give you a call back” which never happens.

Edit - Got a call back from Andrew who has moved from Horsham branch for the next month. Seemed like a great guy, took my details down and said he even if the test drives are meant to be booked through online team, he will make life simpler and give me a call if it arrives while he’s here for the next month to arrange a test drive. Still in the dark over details of the spec but they have been told it will arrive imminently.

In that simple 2 min exchange I got far better customer service than with six months of dealing with TUK online team.
