GR86 Top Gear Long Termer from Ricky Collard ( Speedworks)

Thanks @GrayBoth ; nice to see a long-termer in a UK mag. I'll follow with interest.

(Hope you are well - I remember your earlier posts from over a year ago when the press cars started emerging!)

Yep, sorry for the radio silence, all very busy here at the moment but now happy to share the news that Top Gear have a long termers for a few months, I'm hoping to see some nice real world reviews from it - they seem to be a big fan of it already. Ricky loved it too but I managed to get him in a manual Supra as he is also a massive fan of that.

Hopefully we will see a few more GR86 on the road now that some more allocation has been found

Thanks for the update/info - much appreciated!

Report #2 out

Link

A focus on some day to day inconveniences, but the article does acknowledge getting these out of the way before focusing on driving in later reports.

Instead of bleating about broken wires, why didn’t he use a 90 degree USB lead like the rest of the world does when faced with this problem? It ain’t rocket science! :geek:

I’ve never owned an Android phone so I don’t know what connection they have. Just google ‘90 degree USB for Android phone’ and something is sure to pop up.

Hi @MR2rob , try this, I don’t even have the car yet but am ordering all the various bits I’ll need when it finally arrives (start of Aug! 🤞😂)
Amazon product ASIN B0C27SM4PMI’m sure if you hunt about you’ll find cheaper and no idea why you can’t just buy one (again you might be able too if you hunt about) but this looks like it will be good, only a 1 ft long long versus other options which range from 2-3 metres!! 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

You can get them about 12cm long. I’ve got one that I used for wired CarPlay when the phone was on the cars charging plate. I’ll be using that with my Carlink v5 to keep everything out of the way. Below item used for PC (iPhone lead) measures 30cm as an example.

Could you also use one of these?
I'm still waiting on delivery so haven't experienced the issue yet.
Following with interest to be prepared 🫡

Then plug in a straight, short USB lead? You could in theory but surely a 1-piece solution is best?
Sorry I should have added two thoughts:

I typically have my phone mounted where I can see it as I use Google Maps on the phone screen with waypoints on drives with my car group...... And Radarbot on the car screen.
Plus I find sticking with OEM cables for Android makes it far more stable. I've used many cables over the years with Pixel Android and the OEM cable gives me zero issues.

But yes if you're just keeping your mobile tucked in the cubby out of sight, absolutely short one piece would do the job.

Cheers, happy driving
