Yes comrades, it's time for one of my substance-induced*, rambling contributions for you to cheerfully ignore.

The Toyota GR86 is like the film Oppenheimer, and here's why.

1. Both are examples of how individual high quality elements can be combined by skilled creators to produce an outstanding, homogeneous whole.
2. Both require engagement and some degree of effort to get the best out of them, with the rewards for doing so absolutely worthwhile.
3. Both are not trying to please everyone.
4. Both will reveal more and more to you with repeated exposure.
5. Both hark back to an earlier time and the way things used to be made.
6. Both are reliant on an organic, natural, analogue approach whilst eschewing digital, synthetic ways of doing things.
7. Both have the feel of being the product of a singular, focused vision, eschewing the compromises of a committee approach.

To take this analogy a little further, all these modern hot hatches with their auto gearboxes and proliferation of driver aids are like Marvel superheroes films. Initially impressive (for some°), but after the instant sugar rush hit offering not much else; overreliance on technology; requiring very little from the 'audience'; designed to appeal to as many people as possible; unnecessarily noisy; created by committee with a focus on compromise; generally very predictable and unimaginative; and pretty much indistinguishable from each other.

°Not for me I think they're bollocks

Have to knock a star off as the GR86's 'active sound' and digital dash eschew point 6 - I would rather have neither!

Camera pans right. Woman enters a stark white room. In the background Men are playing chess, mumbling at each other.
[Lady in Blue Scrubs and comforting voice] "Come on Mr.Fox, let's get you back to your room. I think we've had enough sugar and internet for one day don't you?"
[Patient] "But I've not even mentioned the bloody coat hooks, get away woman!"
Camera switches focus to Syringe being raised. Fade to Black.

Top work sir.

Christopher Nolan's next project, perhaps?

Yeah but my dealer isn't having any of it, so it's a manual unplugging job if I need to.
Really?!
Who is your dealer? Tbh, I'd kick up a fuss about that...the ASC is quite clearly listed as a customisable feature and instructs you to contact any authorised Toyota retailer or repairer to change it.

Agree. It's listed in the Owners Manual as a Dealer Customisable Option.

Steven Eagell group. Supposedly a GR specialist, and my contact was the person in charge of all things GR.

That's pretty poor especially if they are a GR centre, sounds like they would say no to doing the auto windows and unlock both doors by key fob which is a popular request.
Maybe worth just getting your service done at a non gr specialist in future?
