GR86 The 11 o'clock Club

Today, my mother-in-law asked when I might get my new car. I said I had no idea, summer perhaps. She replied that having to wait for longer for the car means that it will stay new for longer!

Hey, patience is a virtue..

One I’m not good with, 20 years of IT project management across the oceans gave me an expectation regarding delivery schedules, milestones, time lines and drop dead points.
Sadly we have to accept that the world biggest motoring manufacture can’t sort out a piss up in a brewery.

They have told me 20th of May delivery, plus dealer time doing the sensors, and sorting codes for central locking, windows, mirrors.

So I’ll likely get it in October.

Back in May 22 I kept on thinking it will be a year, buy a M2 or a 718 as a stop gap. I should have, but didn’t, if I had I’d likely show no interest in the GR86 and would have flipped it.
I did a 50 mile test drive, went quite hard, but was rather underwhelmed by the experience.

Toyota know they have fudged up the delivery, but I’m pretty sure that internally they are just blaming Subaru for missing or jumping production slots.

On a positive note later delivery means the software bugs will be fixed, the service department will have practiced on other cars, so the learning curves should be complete. The knock on from that is your car, when it arrives, will be as right, as right can be.
A later delivery on a limited run car is normally a good resale tick.
You're an 11 o'clocker and you have been told that you'll get the car in May?

Booked in at Macclesfield on sat morning to drive the GR hopefully it lives up to expectations.
Well I had my unaccompanied no rush to come back test drive which was not what I was expecting but I am not complaining !
The car was just like my old 86 and I felt at home within a few hundred feet which I was very pleased about. The engine does make a huge difference over the last one whilst being brisk is plenty quick enough on todays roads. Its a bit plasticky inside and the centre console isn’t very comfortable to rest my elbow on but I don’t care that much as the gearbox is a joy to use and I can’t wait to get mine.
The dealer said he thinks mine may come in May or hopefully before…….. or after so yeah could be anytime this year 🤣
I asked about rear parking sensors being fitted and stick on number plates which he said will be no problem and I can view the car when it eventually arrives with them.
I am both happy and disappointed in that I really liked the car and was hoping I didn’t like it so I could get on and buy something else now but now will have to wait a while longer.
If you are near Macclesfield I would go there for a test drive as they were more than helpfu.

I feel sorry for you 11am guys! But think of the plus side, no winter driving for you guys, all the salt eroding our cars :p

I'm nearly a 12 o clocker! At 11:48 I must be one of the last ones. I reckon it will be Q1 2024 at this rate :LOL:

I'm a 10.54am order, and no comms or movement at all from toyota ...

Here in the depths of fuckary, we are 44 weeks into the quoted 12 week lead time and the wild Toyota online time still have not spotted us…

Yer not really sure what I was trying to do there but it feels like the flurry of activity of cars going into build early in the year has stopped :(

My signature gives the main events of my timeline so far.

That would fit the July timeline I was given in December for my 11:00 order.
My dealer gives me an update video every two weeks to let me know the date has not changed from 22nd of April… bless them.

I had 2 emails from Toyota online today, very similar to the original emails after the original order process with the only difference being it stated my nominated dealer. I'm wondering if this is due to changing colour a couple of weeks ago or maybe my order is actually being processed now? Has anybody had similar?

From having seen the traffic over past 9 months, changing colour before it's made, makes no difference ... also, the variability of feedback from the "online team" to individuals, shows they are just administrating the process and not close enough to manufacturing to have any useful insight of delivery dates. As a 10.54am order, I was told recently by the onliners that it'd arrive "second half of year". And that they'd know more "once it is built". Yep ...

I'm very close to throwing in the towel now. Spring is coming and I've not had a fun car since last summer... M2 prices are seeming more and more reasonable and I think im going to go back to one.
