GR86 Test Drives Email!

I did not reset the trip computer before my test drive, and cannot say whether the 12 pre-delivery miles on the clock played a significant role in the indicated average consumption. But I covered 65 miles myself which would more than balance any time spent on the factory dyno, and I doubt that the car is being thrashed on and off ferries (or around the Derby airstrip).
Bugger. There goes my my theory then :D Didn't realise you covered so much mileage on the drive.

Oh well. Hope it's something that will improve as the engine wears in. Mine won't be a daily driven car, so economy isn't a massive concern, but 17mpg would still smart a bit....mostly just for the embarrassment factor of having to admit your 230bhp 4-pot has the thirst of a 5l V8.

Here is a photo of the dasboard of the Jemca Bracknell demo car that I took yesterday.

Average 21.6 mpg with 38 miles on the clock. Reg plate is RE72 SXP.

I'm personally not worried my old skyline did 4mpg 😂
Had a GT86 for quite a while and mpg was stunning actually very high, I think this will be very good also but I'm not bothered if it's not.

That's what happens when you give a 4 cylinder engine 8 injectors 🤣

I'll track it for a bit but I'm not concerned. Sure, it will be shock coming from the bike but the vRS isn't good. Drove into town on Saturday and back and for the first 5 miles it was in the teens, only barely going above 30mpg once I got on the motorway.

I bought for fun. As long as it's not single digits I'm fine with that. Brother's 86 regularly gets high 30's

Just in the hope of salvaging my reputation here on the Zoo, it's reassuring to see another car in the low-20s!

And to clarify, the "38 miles" (beneath the average consumption) is the indicated remaining range of the car (with two bars of petrol left). Your demonstrator is likely only fuelled to a quarter or third of a tank, so remember that every mile you cover away from the dealership is another mile that you will need to drive back.

The odometer is the smaller number at the bottom, showing a total of 95 miles covered.

If possible, perhaps other Zoo-ers (?) could share the numbers from their demonstrators, to see if any kind of trend emerges?

Top Gear Magazine did a road trip in Wales with a GR86, Caterham, MX5 and i20N, and their average MPG throughout the trip for the GR (which was approx 500 miles over 3 days) was 29, and that included a fair bit of silly stuff. That was with ZBD which had a few thousand on the clock, so I'm not worried about MPG at all.

Once we ran out of petrol in town. I mean literally no petrol station had petrol for several days. Huge queues in front of stations. I was forced to use normal octane fuel and hypermile my GT86. It was absolutely soul destroying.
I managed 38 mpg and 63.5 mpg town/motorway miles. I sincerely hope I will never need to repeat that again 🤣

Thank you @drz252 for correcting my post.

I was told that the Bracknell car was going to be PDI'd today, so should be available for test drives once that is done.

Thank you @SmokingPancakes, you reminded be that there is an important sentence in that article.. "..the Toyotal managed 41.4 (mpg) .... for the Japanese coupe that's a massive improvement over the paltry claimed 32.1mpg."

This is for a drive from Kidlington, Oxford to Oswestry, (about 140miles) including the M40 and "abiding by all speed limits" with the intention to maximise the mpg. The premise of the article is to enjoy a three day trip for £300. Later on in North Wales, they er.. used the performance of each car as intended and the overall mpg fell!

For comparison, the other cars in the test got these overall figures: i20N = 33.2, Careham 170R = 44.8 and MX5 = 33.7 mpg.

For those who have Vantage Leeds as their nominated dealer, they have received a Neptune Blue GR86 which is being PDI'd this week and hopefully test drives can start this coming weekend.

If someone remembers when they go for a look, could they grab a picture of what the door sill is like please.
Watching my son get in and out of my current car I will most likely need to protect it!

I have test drive news, comrades. I'm booked in for Sunday. I was offered and could have enjoyed during the week, but pesky work commitments have got in the way.

Less traffic and light rain forecast, so I shall do my best to get the most out of the experience!

The key question is: Shall I try and achieve less MPG than our much-valued brother @drz252 (aka 'lead-foot')?

Same, I’m booked in for Saturday, as the weather looks awful this week, I’ll try to leave some tread on the tyres for you 🤣

Can any Bracknell buddies help me out? Losing track in all the excitement here.

Car arrived Thursday 17th at 4pm - when was it available to drive?

Will give us an idea how long our cars will take to pop through pdi.
