GR86 Test Drives Email!

Still don't get where 65 odd demo cars have come from and why cars still sat in Derby since May
For those of us that have later orders and have been sat on processing for months, 65 demo cars is so annoying and seems far too excessive for 430 orders.

Hope they don’t try to sell them until our orders have been fulfilled.

Unfortunately, they will be sold after about 3 months. Dealers tend to keep demos for around that time and if the market is good for it, they’ll be marked up over list too.
Not the case with toyota, the UK launch Supras back in 2019 didn't hit the used market till a year and a half later, however they had about 2-3000 miles on the clock

I can imagine dealers holding on to them until all buyers have had the opportunity for a test drive and those test drives being just before delivery.

AFAIK the “original plan” , ie before TUK decided to go online only, each GR centre was allocated a demonstrator, my local dealer knew theirs would be a red manual as that is what they had ordered. These cars would have been in the original build schedule.

The story now gets confused as the script the online team were told to read from went to , ”only 5 demonstrators which will be shared around the country , we sold the remaining cars to customers as there is no point in having cars in showrooms that we can’t sell and it’s better for customers to have them” , if I recall the conversation accurately.

What unfolded next is anyone‘s guess but the GR Centres appear to now have their original allocation. 🤷‍♂️

The main dealer demo Yaris I drove was also up for sale, over list. 18 months old with 5.3k demo miles on it! 😲

I'm trying really hard to resist! I want my first drive to be in my car!

So tempted to pop down......

In the absence of any other posts that I can find, it appears I may be the first to have actually had a test drive. Dealer got it in yesterday, rang me this morning, and fortunately I don’t work Friday afternoons.

45 minutes on my own, mix of driving (town, country roads, motorway) without going daft, and little to add to reviews as a result, having not remotely attempted to push any limits. Seems a definite step up from the ten year old GT86 I’ve had from new though in all respects (which it needs to be if the insurance is going to be crippling…)

My dealer hasn't got theirs yet. Will now be end of next week with test drive week after. By that point my car may be all but here (wishful thinking) by then.

Just sent a stroppy email to Toyota GB regarding these test drives.

Contacted two dealers (as mine isn’t a GR Centre) thought I had one lined up for tomorrow, have to drive 100 miles for the privilege. Thought I better phone and check everything is still on. Answer back from dealer - nah we haven't put the car through the workshop as we don’t know if it’s a dealer car or customer car and our system isn’t showing us. FFS!!

The other dealer - totally unaware that test drives are possible and no idea when/if their demo is arriving.

Argh

Yeah I'm waiting until Guildford have had a chance to realise it even got one delivered. Holding off emailing them for a while.

Laugh if they sell off the demos before everyone's had a chance to test drive. I mean it won't be funny but I wouldn't be surprised.

Evening all.

I have a test drive booked for tomorrow morning (it would have been this morning, but for the monsoon weather up here in Alba).

As a public service to my fellow inmates here on the Zoo who might not get a shot in a GR86 any time soon, please let me know if you have any (sensible) questions and I will try my best to answer them during and after the drive tomorrow. I'm thinking of random stuff you don't get in reviews, like "can you reach the glovebox?", or "do the air con dials feel a bit rubbish?".

Just reply to this thread and I'll do what I can to help, and have yourselves a merry little weekend.

(To save millions of duplicate messages, I'll just "like" every suggestion that I read and try to answer them tomorrow! Cheers.)

Would love to know if an average adult could fit in back seats? I have two kids and it’s my second car so not a game changer but would love to be able to take them both out in it. If an adult fits in then I should be ok.

See if the heated seats are any good. The ones in the GT86 were dire...took them 10 minutes to even get warm, by which time the car was up to temperature anyway.
