Greetings high council

Without getting into a discussion on "why" I am coming to you for advice on storage of my GR Yaris.

I will be looking to store it in my garage. I plan on doing the following:
- Machine wash
- Maintenance charger
- Full tank of non-ethanol gas + fuel stabilizer - 10 min run in to mix
- Pump up the tires above street levels
- Some type of dehumidifier apparatus inside

Further down the line I will isolate and heat my garage, but not this winter as my pianofingers would freeze while performing the job. I will also wash it thoroughly and polish/wax when the weather allows it.

Additional information: In a 12 month periode I will drive it on longer roadtrips and that type of trips, for fun. But It will remain "stored" on a day to day basis and no longer be my daily driver as before. I live in the Oslo area in Norway, which is south to us Norwegians, but north to most of the world. So we have long winters of sub zero degrees celcius. I also live by the ocean with whatever climactic applications that would bring.

So Im coming to you for any additional advice as car nerds on order to keep my car in prestene condition for the next generation.

How often would you be doing the longer road trips, just in summer?

The only thing I would add is to have the windows very slightly open to allow air to circulate (dehumidifiers can help though if you have them regularly checked so that they are not saturated), and also to watch for rodents with the electricals (sure I read something about cellulose-based plastic alternatives being quite favoured by them and that they can be chewed easily), but any deterrents are good to avoid this.

Do you have any undercoating on it for the salt? You could also get it ceramic coated as an extra barrier for paintwork if its sitting there, but for any structural stuff heavier wax etc would be good.

My sportier car is currently being stored and I've done the same as you, especially with the maintenance charger, on previous years and its always been fine. I think its also important to note that if you start it, make sure it gets a proper run for everything to warm up and circulate rather than starting it and it not moving very far. So in other words don't start it if you aren't sure it will get a good drive. Every couple of months and I imagine you'll be fine.

20+ years of storing my MR2, best thing I ever did was to get a cair-o-port (an indoor carcoon) to keep air circulating around the car (also deters rodents from getting into your car or engine bay electrics). I use a moisture trap in the footwell and boot; polish and wax before storing; clean wheel arches thoroughly; ensure completely dry before storing - especially areas that pool water in the engine bay; tyres to 45psi; remove battery and attach a ctek in an above 0’C environment…and avoid the temptation to start it while not being used!

I think it will be aprox 3-5 longer trips, mostly in autumn and winter. The next couple of years at least.

Yes its coated underneath
