GR86 Stock tyre lifetime

Just checking...did you definitely have the PS4 on the Porsche ...or the PS4S?

That's one further confusion I've seen crop up before. The PS4S has been revered as probably the best sporting UHP summer tyre you can get for several years, and rightly so. But it seems distinctly different from the PS4...guessing the latter is a more run-of-the-mill offering despite still being a premium tyre. Not a bad tyre, but definitely not on the level of the PS4S.

So when people start comparing them across different cars, I feel like I have to double check that the same tyre is being referred to. Especially when people talk in the plural, "I'm running a set of PS4s on my car..."...wait, do you mean a set of "pee ess fours" or a set of "pee see four ess"? :D

PS4 (not S) without 'N' designation. Michelin don't make PS4S in required sizes for the rear wheels ie 265/35/18.

The PS4 and PS5 are pretty much the only modern premium tyre available in the required sizes. If you limit yourself to 'N designation then you might end up with a PS2 which is a 20 year-old design. Such is the problem of running a 30 year old uncommon car with staggered wheel sizes.

I'm now running PS5 on the 993 which seem to have a slightly softer sidewall from what I can feel but otherwise no other differences I can detect.

I ran N rated Bridgestone S02a's on my 86 911 Supersport. They were a fantastic tyre, for that car. I think this thread has made me realise I should probably sell the PS4s I have in the garage with less than 1000 miles on them. 😁

Yes I ran S02 (not 'a') for a while on the the 993 but I sold the wheels.

I preferred them to the Conti N1 and N2 but those were on different size wheels so not really comparable.

Just over 18k out of my PS4 rears and now need replacing, no track days, just some enthusiastic driving at times.
Front's still have plenty of life left.
Would you run a different brand or size on the rear and leave the fronts? Asking cos I’m in the same position and want to try something other than 215 PS4 this time

Never, on any car. I have before, hence that statement. Even if the sizes are meant to be different (e.g. Porsche), I would never mix brands/treads. Those four postcard size contact areas with the ground need to be optimised for your and everyone else's safety.

I asked the very same question over in the wheels/tyres thread.
The answer was a unanimous, no.
Once 4 tyres have been replaced, I will rotate at around 10k (if I remember).
