GR Yaris Show us your aftermarket wheels.

Haven't heard much negatives. On track it might even give some more feel what is going on. But on rutted, cambered and bumpy roads, the changed scrub radius can introduce some added reactions in the wheel when accelerating or braking. As I frequent such roads, I try to stay close to et45....
thank you very much ET45's it is .

Bola B9 for winter in the stock sizing with cross climates. Pretty sure there won’t be any fitment issues nor any with the wheel nuts but I’ll still be happy when they go on.

I really wanted Gun metal in colour but they went out of stock in the week I spent deciding, similarly with bronze. I really liked that colour too as I wanted something a bit different in looks, but I guess that I can always get these repainted. They are similar looking to stock, so I imagine my car will look the same as before.

How are you getting on with these? Looking to get pretty much the same set up for winter tyres. They seem reasonable in terms of cost, and a little over a kilo heavier. Would you recommend?

I wish I could comment, not least as I probably owe you some knowledge in exchange for reading your post about Preserve and Protect where my car is now booked into! I was planning to fit them before driving up in a couple of weeks but it’ll probably be motorway only all the way there unless I can sneak off via the Pennines!

I wanted them in bronze but only black were available - from a finish point of view they look pretty good and sturdy plus don’t expect anything dramatic due to them being same measurements as OEM but afraid no real life evidence yet! I thought the crossclimates were great on my Golf when I had them last year but the bar was quite low and I guess this time round I’m comparing to much grippier tyres.

I ran Crossclimate 2 on 18x8 ET35 wheels through the winter, and also had them on briefly during spring/summer for a bit. My winter wheels are pretty heavy, so the ride is a little harsher on the bumps, but the tyres did the job, and felt sure-footed, especially when the temperatures drop down below 10 degrees.

The steering feel is noticeably different when you swap, with less feedback and bite, but that’s to be expected on an all season with softer sidewalls. On the plus side, there’s less road noise than the PS4S, and they are very predictable in the mushy cold and wet conditions we get in the UK in autumn and winter. I travel a lot between North Wales and Manchester, taking the scenic routes when I can, and it feels like a real go-anywhere little car.

One thing I’d note is that in a 225/40 they are noticeably narrower than the stock PS4S, and so don’t have much in the way of rim protection. I think in hindsight I would choose a 235/40 if I was having them fitted again, although they are more expensive.

Quieter Road noise is a real bonus then, especially with motorways and good to know about the handling.

Out of interest, when will you (/others) fit winter tyres? There’s been a couple of colder mornings but nothing too bad as yet, equally the sooner I get my precious OEM wheels stored away the more relaxed I might feel!

For me it’s less about temperatures and more about saving the wheels too. I’ll probably switch around when the clocks change and it’s dark and wet in the afternoons. There are far too many nasty potholes around Manchester that get submerged when it rains. Think I’d cry if I hit one on the stock wheels.

Likewise regarding the potholes! I do love the red with black wheels on your car at the moment but exciting to see how red and white looks.

Same! Got a long weekend in the Lake District coming up which I’m going to enjoy on the PS4S, then a swap soon after I think.

Maybe I’ll need some stripes for the full Tommi effect..? 😏

That would be awesome! Then you’ll need to find somebody with a blue Yaris and gold wheels to park next to for a photo opportunity.

Ah no worries at all, when are you coming up? And are you staying up while it is being done or making a return trip?

Yeah hear good things about the crossclimates, wheels look like a good balance of price / weight / build quality and do think it would be a good option for a winter wheel.

Wonder if anyone has any experience of these for track use? Maybe a little heavy?

Saturday 15th - the car has to be there before lunchtime then we are going to drive around the highlands for a week in my parents’ car (Skoda Yeti so not as fun!) . I’m then collecting my car from P&P on way back down to my parents in the Borders a week later. Assuming I put the wheels on before heading up, could always meet up to show you what they are like on the car if you are in the area at all (probs near Glasgow on 24th October - then heading back via Edinburgh direction).

Ah that sounds like a great week you have planned, where are you going to stay / visit?

I'm based near Stirling / Dunblane but work in Glasgow during the week, would be good to see if you do manage to get them on!

Good Morning Grali - fine choice indeed , I am hoping to buy a set of compomotives too. Do they work ok with the 35 offset instead of the 45 standard. ? I would be really grateful for yours or ayones comments on how the car feels with a 35 offset on standard 18's and tyre size . All the best , with thanks Dave
Hey, not had any bother with the 35 offset, feels grand and looks a bit better too. I’ve done a few thousand miles on them including a spirited trip round Germany with no issues, even on some pretty sketchy roads

We’ve headed to the Cairngorms for a few days to do some hill walking/ general exploring….I didn’t put the wheels on in time to come up with them in the end as I needed to order additional wheel nuts which only arrived Friday afternoon. Did see 3 different yarises parked in Aviemore this evening and all different colours but assume that the red one wasn’t yours as pretty sure the number plate was G_ ____ format.

Really wished I’d had my car for here though, but had a nice chat with Mark when I dropped the car off yesterday so really glad it’s in safe hands there. I’m up again end of November with a hopefully fully winter ready car so will message if I’m in the area to say hi!

Just a question drawn from curiosity. We are limited here to increasing track by no more than 25mm. Provided the wheels/tyres still sit within the guards, don't touch any part of the car etc etc. Track cannot be reduced. That limits us to P33 offset to P45. Do you guys in Europe have similar rules?

@ehath28 I had GR OZ Ultraleggera's 8x18 et35 on my previous GR and thought I'd try the et30. Now I'm relatively sensitive in these things, I would say. The Yaris drives just like before. But of course I ride a relatively aggressive camber setup, you have to consider that. Yes, different wheels nuts. OEM studs. M12x1.5 cone collar 60° 110NM. They look great in the wheelarches , but don't stick out too much. That's how it should be from the factory in my opinion

@Humptydumptyhadabigone We have a lot of problems, but that's allowed in Germany :LOL: Team Dynamics provides an certificate. With this you can easily have the wheels registred in the papers.

Our XR4 (ST150) track car runs much shallower offset than stock (about 25mm a side from memory) and spacers at the rear (illegal on the road here) and feels good. Another in the XR4 group of friends liked the 16s and how it looked so ran the same wheels with the same offset on the road and you could feel it affect turning with the changes to scrub radius etc. Never noticed anything on the track, too busy screaming I guess ;) He got used to it quite quickly but you could notice the difference between that and stock.
