GR Yaris Short roadtrip ideas in the Yaris in March

Got a fortnight off before starting a new job and thinking it might be nice to spend some of it on a little roadtrip, at very short notice.

Been doing some searching on the usual online resources but wondered if anybody had done anything recently in Europe at this time of year? I think Nurburgring is out due to the museum being closed and general lack of anything happening, plus don't fancy the crowds for the NLS this weekend either. Equally the mountain passes in the Alps are likely to be closed if I went South, so not the ideal time but might have the benefit of being quieter in general.

I'd be looking at 3-4 days, probably taking ferry from Portsmouth or the tunnel across to that area of France. I've got Crit d'Air stickers for France and Germany but not for anywhere else.

Have also tried to book a GR86 from the Hertz fun collection in Geneva as per an unexpected summer bonus 2 years ago (thread here) in order to save some motorway miles on the Yaris, but can't seem to do it again despite the car appearing in the initial step.

An alternative is to keep it much simpler and explore North Wales / Snowdonia since I've not actually driven there much, perhaps that's the best compromise.

Doing my bit for the tourist board, but how about the Isle of Man? Mid March is when everything starts coming back to life again and the ferry from Liverpool runs more frequently. The GRY is built for the roads here.

Thanks, this is a really good shout actually and I'd completely overlooked it. If not now, then definitely on the list for a proper holiday visit. The roads look superb, you're really lucky.

One chap I have watched a lot is Steve Clark - fat lad on a bike.
He and a few mates go on a few days biking trips around britain. I did the NC500 route plus the route he did to get him up their which covered Braemar. His drive up to the official start to me was better than the actual NC500 route. I did 1300 miles in 6 days.
He then did a couple of other videos where they chose smaller trips in some of the areas they previously passed through. I am thinking of doing that such as 3 days in the Skye area. The west coast up there is in my opinion the best roads, views and areas. Spring and autumn are best to avoid the ticks, midge and kids.
They have done many videos arount the UK and the roads good for bikes are nice for the GRY.

Cheers, Braemar is an amazing road over past Glenshee / the Lecht. I’ll check out that channel as be nice to explore something domestic instead and obv lower transport costs overall.

Remind me, which one is the preferred sea route for more peace of mind while the car is on the ferry?

You’ve got two options from England; Heysham or Liverpool. The new ferry runs to both but the faster catamaran runs to Liverpool only. I don’t worry about the GRY on either, just remember to disable the cabin alarm.

I’m going over the week after next to stay with a mate. Golf trip but planning at least a drive over the mountain (Ramsey to Douglas) and keen to hear of any other roads to experience…..
