Massively rich parents providing a safety net to do what you want without ruining your life was his start. His audience early days was with little kids. Nowadays I think its kids and people who talk slowly and often stare into the distance with their mouth open and a hint of drool coming out of the side of their mouth. He must be doing something right judging by he lifestyle and collection of cars.
I would rather listen to Harry talk about his prostate problems* for an hour than listen to Schmee talk about cars for 5 seconds5 seconds of viewing a video on YouTube is classed as a 'view' and the main beneficiary is the channel. Schmee's channel has grown out of YouTube's own bias.
It'd be interesting to see where he gets such high numbers of viewers from. Harry Metcalfe did a video recently on his channel's analytics, I would bet Schmee's are predominantly coming from Asia and North America - where appetite for click baity videos is high. I doubt 95% of the views he gets extend beyond a minute.
There was quite a good Johnny Smith video where he met him and he explains that it's all analytics driven. Once 'he' (as he has an entire company set up around it) figured out which type of content got the most views, then they just pushed more of that and the snowball effect took off. Agree though I watched one or two a while ago and you just don't learn anything, its drivel. Same with the stupid Carwow let's just drag race endless combinations of cars videos. And e.g. by me mentioning the channel title here there's a few more views for that page too probably as even if its annoying, people will still click out of publicity...any publicity is good publicity I suppose.I watched one of his videos once as someone at a car show was appalled that I hadn't heard of him. When I got home I sat through the GR Yaris video where he gets an exhaust fitted to it. It's personal taste I guess but I simply don't understand how he has so many views and subscribers.
..and this is before you get to the product placement/endorsements - which Schmee's channel in particular thrives on. The videos he has done on aftermarket parts for the GRY have been a joke. It's not perfect but take a look at socialblade.com for potential earnings from social media.
This is Carwow's for YouTube.
