GR86 Seen Through Glass/Behind The Glass - Drive my Ride - GR86

Seen of few videos of Sam / seen through glass a few times and find him okay, a bit annoying. Doesn't come across as a real expert, but then as an Engineer / wanting to know the finer detail, I prefer the Savagegeese type YouTubers.

Never seen that Tony before and to begin with, I thought, what a dick! But I persevered, watched the whole thing and at the end of it, I thought that he was just a bit of a dick. 🤣🤣

To be fare, it was worth watching and whilst they did just keep harping on about automatic hot hatches and 10 year old Caymans, they did acknowledge that it was a great car. I certainly won't be subscribing to the channel, but would watch something from them again if it was of a car that I was interested in, but only after having watched videos about it from my usual / subscribed to YouTubers first.

I’d like to thank those above who went though the effort ( or pain) of watching this and summing it up. I didn’t check how long exactly, but I don’t think I managed a minute before having to stop as they were annoying me already.
If you managed more than my 56 seconds @Nick I'll stand you a hot beverage of your choice next time we catch up!

He reviewed the GR86 some time back, and I thought the review was good. He highlighted that there were faster cars out there, and I think he was following one of them, but he came to the conclusion (from memory) that he was probably having more fun. He didn't seem to be worried about the badge and just thought it was a fun car.

I'm not sure why he changed so much for this review, maybe it was being in the presence of Tony. He had told Tony it was good (Tony refused to listen because it's not a 5 litre V12) but Sam got side-tracked onto warped badge snobbery. I say warped because he was even saying how a Golf has a reputation etc. Now there is nothing wrong with a Golf, but it's not a ****ing Ferrari. It's not a competition, but since we're on the subject I'd say the GR86 looks more special than a Golf.

I don't disagree with most of what they said about the car itself, it's certainly not for everyone, there is more road noise compared to most cars (because it's a back to basics lightweight sportscar), but their mad ideas of badges did my head in.

I thought the same, but at least he was able to tell that the car had decent handling.

You say that Trig but Nick only drinks Jamaican Blue Mountain

I haven’t looked at this yet but I only listened to one through the glass podcast and he had just take his new GT3 to the Alps. He stated it was running out of power and there fore was a bit underpowered. I couldn’t imagine any one driving on the limter in a GT3 through the Alps. He’s full of crap I never bothered to listen again

Well, after a min or 2 I skipped to when they're actually driving it. They're quite intolerable in the intro.

Not a fan of these two at all, but at least "Tony" actually gives it an honest run when he's driving it.

They're right about most people wanting a S-line German car, but I'm not that guy.. Whenever someone hears I like driving and talks to me about pressing the sport button in their run of the mill German dishwasher, I just switch off. I'll take the GR86 any day

I always wanted a Caterham as my 2nd car, but given I drive a van to work and don't use it for personal use, and now race a go kart at the weekends, having something in between is perfect. I'll take the GR with it's boot, rear sear storage area and windscreen.

I don’t disagree with what they say. If I needed one car that did it all I would rather have a hot hatch. A Leon Cupra with the diff on max and the gearbox in sport is actually great fun for an auto FWD. Then in comfort mode it’s more relaxed than a GR. The GR on the motorway gets tiresome with the noise and front end resonance on poor surfaces.
