GR Yaris Resonance at 2600 rpm

The issue persists at higher speeds for me but is less predominant. If everyone experienced this then I suppose we would have to shrug it off. However, that’s not the case so surely something can be done.

A 3-cylinder with offset pistons has some funky secondary imbalance, maybe they manifest themselves as a resonance when they interfere with some other cyclic something in the driveline? I know I have the on-off resonance each lasting about 2s, but I haven't noticed it the last maybe year so probably just got used to it....

That’s a very interesting video, thanks. I’m having a hard time accepting that this is the cause of what I and others are experiencing though. It’s irritating and I’d like to know what to do about it.

Slight hum / drone / low-pitched vibes under load in high gear with low revs. (I.e. the car is telling me it's not made for that way of driving / limping around.)
The sound seems to come from .... not sure .... maybe from the roof.

I am putting it down to lightweight construction. Toyota may have added some extra glue and welds, ok, but certainly no alubutyl mats.

Shifting down a gear or two always helps.

I had noticed that too. However, I also have no idea where this noise comes from or what it is.

After reading this article yesterday, I paid closer attention:
It also starts at around 2600 and stops at around 3100.

I was able to test a little further on this topic:
It feels like the vibration is a bit more in sport mode than in track and the least in normal. (I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure, need to look at it a bit more).
However, I am sure that the more load there is, the more it vibrates. What I noticed is that when I'm driving at a constant speed and going uphill, the vibration gets stronger, but when I'm driving downhill, it's almost completely gone.

Has anyone else made any new observations on this topic?

Could it be ANC?

Maybe the tailgate? Even when it’s secured enough for the car to know that the boot is shut correctly, sometime there is slight movement in the catch and I have to reclose it (the black coloured plastic part on mine also moves slightly so could also be that).

Just tried something:
While the resonance was heard, I applied the handbrake minimally and immediately the resonance disappeared.

My conclusion:
It has sth. to do with the rear differential; the rear is decoupled and the car only drives in FWD.
(You can also hear a "clacking noise" as it is decouples, in sport mode you hear it even a bit louder than in normal mode.)

Maybe putting the car in Normal drive mode helps then? Can try...

I wonder if this TSB to replace an engine mount is implicated. Says 2000-2400 rpm, but that's not a million miles away...

mine goes in tomorrow into Lindops (queensferry) for an annoying resonance from the rear bumper off side when hard on boost above 60mph
took on the techs on a drive he heard it too so it hopefully will be sorted.
oddly i am more looking forward to the hybrid Yaris they are lending me for the day. Am keen to try that. However it may wear thin quite quickly.

Might be the license-plate, added more double sided tape, that kind of vibration is now gone but still there is this "other" resonance.

I had this resonance with the standard torque-mount as well as with the airtec torque-mount (purple).

interesting side note.

Yes, I had the same. Fixed with velcro.
