Hi guys!

Been awhile!

Potentially thinking of changing from the Supra back to an 86.

Just wondering if anyone has successfully fitted a rear facing car seat in the back. Have a 5 month old.

I never got in the back of the 86 when I had it. And no baby at the time.

So just wondering if it’s actually a viable option or if I’m barking up the wrong tree!

If anyone has any experience putting one in the back of GR Yaris that would also be worth knowing.

Still irritated we don’t get the GR Corolla…

Thanks all!

Yes, it’s 100% doable but you will need a ‘can do’ attitude!

We have an Axkidd Mini Kid 2 (4 is the latest model), which is tested to a very high level (it’s Swedish) and we still use it for our soon-to-be five year old. Before that, we had an isofix baby seat in the rear of the GT.

Having come from the GT where you could fix a child seat in the front (you could turn the air bag off), you will need to make compromises and be prepared for faff. Is it the most practical? No. Is it doable? Defo!

You won’t be able to fit anyone in the front passenger seat but we have had two two-week trips to France/Belgium/Holland in it as a family of three. My missus is very understanding and makes it work, surviving on minimal leg room behind me (or crossing her legs). I’m 5’10, she’s 5,8 so neither of us are giants. There’s also room for a pram/stroller in the boot along with the usual paraphernalia. We’ve all been out in it today with the beagle harnessed in the front seat!

It gets easier once the little one can climb in themselves - you can then sit next to them and get them strapped in. My little guy knows the drill of taking shoes off first! He loves being in it so it’s not a big chore.

Just be aware the back is a bit of a greenhouse, so be sure to have a sunshade in there too. The air con is ace, just keeping sun out of eyes.

It takes us five mins to fit the seat in the GR after some practice and the tethers go under the seat rails easily.

Happy to send pics etc if you need them!

Hey, I got my 86 3 years ago and I have a 2year old.
The rear facing seat in this car should only go in the rear and with that you lose all the legroom for the seat in front of it, so it can only go behind the passenger seat as you will need to drive..

My partner is on the smaller side and if sitting straight up she could fit in, but if you plan to daily this setup i have to advise that you can't if including your partner.
(I had a second work vehicle for a while during the window you need rear facing so we just used the gr when it suited the trip)

Now it's great, we moved onto forward facing, then into a booster with straps style and each change gives your passenger more space back. I would add it's amazing how quick they grow, it won't be long until you get to where you need for a family of 3.

You will suffer greatly just getting them in and out of the rear to strap them in and be limited to parking only where there is an empty space to your side. I do it every time, it's still worth it to me to own the GR. Prams and bits all fit great in the boot.

The question would be how much your partner would put up with in the short term, if they are normal sized it wont work.
But if your determined i would say giving up the supra should have given you enough points to try!

Also angry over the Corolla, would pick that up in a heartbeat.

Thanks both. Appreciate the replies and perspectives.

It might be that I go for a CTR then as my next step.

Wife is slightly above average height and has long legs. So might be a no go for awhile.

Maybe Toyota will surprise us with a Corolla and all will be well 😆
