The comment I received from my PPF installer was that the templates were very accurate for the GR86 and that they went on with very little adjustment required. Even down to the headlight washers.

The precut Xpel templates can be manipulated to be bigger . smaller wrap around the edge in the software - depends what you want.

A side bonus - the hydrophobic nature of the paintwork means it's selfs-snow-clearing!
I'm considering an Xpel wrap once i have picked up my car in the coming weeks. here in Germany i was quoted as follows:
- full front bumper kit: EUR 690,00
- full hood, fender and mirror kit: EUR 980,00
(hood only is EUR 620,00)
- full side skirt kit: EUR 460,00
(only behind the wheels is EUR 120,00)
so overall about EUR 2.130,00
not sure it's worth it especially considering I'll have to drive the car at least about 500-1000 km (buying out of state) before I can get it wrapped.

That sounds rather expensive. I got the front bumper, bonnet, side skirts, A pillars, mirrors and head lights done for £1500

I would say that price is expected (for DE) assuming it includes taxes… however I would find a way not to drive the car before it gets to the detailer.

After seeing some stone chips appear on the front and silver having a dark undercoat making them look quite nasty for tiny chips, Im going full front PPF.
Have the side skirts done already to stop stones and shoes scuffing that and its still in good shape, but as per my other thread the paint is so thin and pathetically weak that Ive bit the bullet and going PPF bumper, bonnet, wings. £1100 by a guy in Hampshire who did the skirts and another of my cars.
Good news is after the scary story on Pistonheads about the guy who's insurance company invalidated his insurance for having PPF, Admiral told me today they will make a note but its not a modification or a change etc so thats a win!

Well as a naked car driven through winter I can say I have a decent covering of stone chips!
I could just have a normal amount for any car, not had a new car before.
I compared mine to those with PPF at japfest and those with PPF have little to no stonechips by comparison.
However for me it doesn't change anything, PPF is still very expensive, you can still see the folds/edges, you'll get chips where it isn't and some of the edges were lifting and trapping dirt already.
Personal choice as always!

Completely agree @PVGR I dont really want PPF to be honest, I had it fitted to a car after the front got resprayed post incident with deer 
and fitted the PPF, the right company and fitter there shouldnt be any edges visibly except around headlights etc,wing/bonnet edges should be neatly wrapped around out of sight, newer PPF is pretty good, older stuff is not so nice, tends to go yellow, peel and look grim after several years.
The 86 is my first ever new car so I've always bought cars with chips but the paint seems quite delicate on this, I have visions of it looking much worse in a couple of years than my 15 year old BMW did with 160k miles. This winter hasnt helped, the roads are Victorian and stones are everywhere!
If only companies made car paint like the old days, 5mm thick and full of lead

the time will tell... For those wanting to keep this car 5+ years then the PPF might be worth it. If it can last up to 10 years, then it is worth it IMO. I probably wouldn't be too worried about respraying a non-pearl or non-metallic paint... But respraying the halo white would mean respraying the whole car basically to get a decent result.
I have went with a detailer who is 10+ years in the business and doesn't use pre-cuts for exterior parts. It was well worth it IMO. You virtually cannot tell there is PPF unless looking from odd angles very close up.

Since I've been to the detailers I can't keep seeing the paint difference between the bumper and the wing... it's quite jarring! Did any other owner of Sapphire Blue notice this?

That doesn’t seem right, this is mine after I went to the detailers
It's quite common for the front bumper to have an ever so slight shade difference to the front wing (on all cars), and some colours show it more than others....white is a prime example usually. But in your photo it could be the angle of the light exacerbating it.
Does it look off in person? If not, then I'd try not to worry about it, as without a full respray I'm not there's much you can do and you'll end up obsessing over it. Honestly I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it I don t think.
