GR86 Ordering

I think this is very good value. I’ve got an appointment at my local dealer on Monday (11th Apr) to place an order. Still not sure on colour though - my wife likes the dark blue. Dark blue it is then. Joking aside, she’s on board with getting this so I want her to like and enjoy it as well and I quite like the dark blue as well. Getting weirdly excited by all of this!!!

Welcome and congratulations, I find keeping the “CEO“ happy is always a good plan 😉 looking forward to an update on Monday 👍

Just in case any wants a pre-order I found Gareth at Motorpoint Horesham excellent to deal with following many disappointing calls locally.

I’ve ended up ordering directly with Toyota online. Order placed for Sapphire Blue. Roll on July😃😃

I understand that this was a test site, and the live site has not been launched yet... You will be contacted by Toyota regarding your order - I assume it will be fine! (y)

Do you think with the GRY fiasco, unscrupulous dealers flipping cancelled orders for silly prices which in turn annoyed serious customers, made it so Toyota had no choice?

Been reading the messages about ordering.

As soon as the price was released I contacted my local dealer. We spoke last year about getting on a pre order list but they advised to just get in touch when prices announced. But they didn’t even call me back. Searched around a bit and another dealer helped me and has taken a deposit, done all the finance paperwork, ID checks, DVLA forms and had his manager approve the order form. He said as soon as orders open he’ll submit it (as all paperwork done in advance) and then he should have a build date within a week or two.

But whether that’s true I don’t know. He certainly seemed very genuine 🤷‍♂️

Hopefully be the proud owner of a black manual model but time will tell.

I’ve just dropped the salesman an email to see if he intends to place my order on Wednesday or whether it’s best to return my deposit and I order myself?

I’ve had finance proposals through etc so it all seems genuine, but perhaps the dealers are still unsure what the process is and I’ll get a call on Wednesday to say that he cannot do it?

Probably best to get in touch before Wednesday to establish exactly where you are. I think the phones at many Toyota dealerships will be hot tomorrow 🤔

Angry 😡
Let Down 😡
Apologies for the complete turnaround in what was information passed to us some weeks ago
That dealer only orders would be taken
If anyone has paid the £500 to us and ordered we will refund as quickly as possible so you can reserve next week
Absolutely livid and I know the arrogance of the TGB MD will be behind it
Disgusting way to treat customers as well as dealers looking after them with a passion for the brand which doesn’t end with a faceless on line order
Rant over
Sums it up rather well

Preparing an email to go to Akio Toyoda in Japan given GR is his baby

I’m not sure there is much to complain about is there? Toyota said all along it would be released in the UK in spring and it would be a special order process and that has pretty much happened.

Plenty of things happening in the world right now that are disgraceful and unfair but the ordering system for a niche Toyota sports car isn’t one of them. 🇺🇦

Depends where you stand in the process. If you are a dealer you are not happy if you are a potential buyer and can’t access the internet at 10 am you are not happy. If you lucked in early and think you are getting an early order of course you are happy. Nothing to do with what’s going on in the world it’s just a poor way to communicate with the public and businesses who have invested millions in your brand. I take it you are not an entrepreneur with your own money at risk in your business if you were you would understand the commitment that goes into building a dealership and in particular a GR centre.

I think this initial batch of 86s will be a drop in the ocean for most dealers where the mainstay is still the standard Yaris/Aygo/rav4 etc. They will still get a fee for handover if selected, albeit possible slightly less than a conventional sale. I’m pretty sure dealers who hoovered up 15-20 “pre-orders“ from all over the country will be disappointed, but perhaps the ones not taking pre-orders will be happy as they are now more likely to be nominated for handover by their local customers.

You are also assuming it will sell out within 5 minutes of opening, but most people outside of here don’t know what a GT86 is, let alone a GR86 and it took a couple of weeks for Germany to sell out so suspect you’ll still be fine to get one on Thursday. Even if you do miss out then it will only be an extra 3-4 months before the 2023 models start arriving and you’ll then be able to get a test drive and there might be the possibility of new colours/special editions etc. Personally I’ll be keeping this car 15yrs+ as a toy to run along side whatever boring EV I have to drive so not too concerned if I miss out on the initial batch.

My dealer called to apologise and confirm that he has to refund my deposit, as you have all said above.

However, he has offered to do a zoom call with me tomorrow and he’ll do it for me on his system, as if I was sitting with him in the dealership. So I can’t really complain about that.

Yeah my dealership rang me today, set up a meeting for half nine so we can be ready to go through the process together. Feel more reassured doing it with someone who has been briefed on the process.

My dealer is still trying to get a straight answer from Toyota, but I assume I'll have to do the same thing.
Callanhan, have just come off the phone from Bishop's Stortford. They clearly weren't aware of what is going on. Initially they told me that they are waiting to hear from Toyota tomorrow morning about how to process their orders! When I pointed out that the order book opened tomorrow at 10am and, furthermore, their sister dealership in Chelmsford was refunding deposits I was immediately placed on hold. They obviously called Chelmsford as I was then informed that they would immediately be refunding my deposit and I would need to order on line tomorrow.

Thanks, yes, I just had the same call from them. Oh well.
