GR Yaris (Gen 2) Ohlins DFV (TOS MW00S1) is NOT compatible with Gen2/facelift

Hi,

This is for anyone who is thinking about replacement of stock suspension on Gen2 GRY by Ohlins - existing version of Ohlins DFV kit is NOT compatible with the facelift version of GR Yaris. I've learned this hard way..

Ohlins web states it's compatible, however it's not a reality - the upper mounts are different and just do not fit.

I am now waiting what Ohlins says on this - will add it later to this thread.

But yes, it makes sense, it was stated somewhere on the 2024 Gen2 characteristics that the front struts / mounts had been modified to reinforce them in comparison to Gen1.

Anyhow, OHLINS should take back what they sent you and refund you purely & simply.

Further to this, if you don't intend to track the car on VERY regular basis, and hardly ever use it on road, I would advise you not install OHLINS kit because the spring rate is double that of the OEM springs (80N/mm). You will lose in confort, and you will lose overall grip and behaviour on degraded B-Road blasting. This car was built, out-of-the-box, just for that.
For the meantime, there's no-one out there proposing, at a decent price ticket (say 3000-5000€), REALLY upgraded coilovers featuring dramatically improved hydraulics with the same OEM spring rate (37-40N/mm). These OEM springs are perfect for Rally type roads.
NOTA :
BOS suspensions do offer coilovers showing better hydraulics on OEM spring rates, but they have been tested and proven by AJ Piras as a good kit as a whole, but after giving them a beating on rally stage type of B-roads, that the rear shocks do not have enough travel, thus damaging them from compression in the bump stops. BOS, instead of improving the rear shocks and replacing the broken ones for AJP, took two years to sort out the issue with AJP. I must say that he has had a lot of patience with them. So that's definitely become a no-go for me, and am still waiting for the "perfect" road kit. HKS maybe ?

I'm fully aware of the high spring rate - given my intended use (mostly track) it's fine. I have another car with similar weight equipped with DFV on 7kg/mm springs and it's perfectly fine.

On the subject; Ohlins already provided shipping labels and also fixed the info on their web - clearly stating MY2024/facelift is NOT compatible.

you have Bigem that you can set up for the springs you want. 1way's cost 4k or so.

Have you tried the Öhlins? Yes, the spring rate is much higher, but it is perfectly liveable for a daily. In fact, I would say on softer settings is more confortable than stock.

On roads with good tarmac, and on track, the setup is very good. Only on broken roads, potholes and similar stuff you are better off with oem softer set up.

It really depends on the use you give to the car.
 
You can also buy GRMN bilstein dampers as an alternative…but is an expensive bit of kit (for not out of the world, on paper, specs).
 
Hi All, this is a bit late in this thread. But ill jump in anyway. We have made the Öhlins TTX kits for both Gen 1 and 2 yaris. The kit aside from the fronnt top mount is 100% the same.
The front top mount is the determining factor. We make adjustable top mounts for both models, so with a bit of adapting, I'm about 95% sure that we can make this kit fit the Generation 2 no problem... if anyone is willing to leave me their car at the nurburgring for a couple of weeks... There will be a very well priced set of Ohlins DFV R&T dampers in it for them :)
