My spoiler seems to have come unstuck. Its resonates when I close the boot and if I lift the back it flexes up. I can only assume that the adhesive tape has failed (it was installed by the dealer in November when it was cold…).

Has anyone else had this? Anyone fixed it? I assume it’s a fairly simple job to remove, replace the tape and re-stick.

Yeah mine has done the same. I haven't bothered to touch it as its not causing a problem. If it lifts elsewhere I'm going to take it off and refit it with new tape, but that won't be a fun job getting all the old foam adhesive off.

Do you have the spoiler bolted, or just stuck with tape? Mines bolted and I think the tape is still sound.

Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover will do the trick.

3M tape is impressive stuff but results will vary. Factors like temperature at time of install and how clean the surface is/whether adhesion promotor is used will have a huge impact on the outcome.

Exactly that.

I'd imagine it was lack of attention to detail when fitted by the dealership... This is why I'll fix it myself instead of letting "stangers" touch my car.

So for the next pop quiz, what thickness tape do we need ?

@Sonic installed an eBay one himself. There's a log on his member's cars thread

Got mine from Japan and fitted it myself - used the 3M prep kit and tape that came with it, and drilled the holes as per the patterns. No issues so far.

I read a few threads on the internet with a drill/no drill discussion, and decided on…… drill.

Sounds like the sticky has come undone, if you know where it is, maybe can pad out with some 3M tape without removing.
Otherwise if you are planning a fresh install, get some dental floss to take the old stuff off.
Keep us posted on your solution.

No there isn't enough flex for that, i uts just the trailing edge that is loose, probably furthest away from the bolts!

I'll need to fully disasemble, clean and reassemble.. I was just hoping to get an idea of what thickness 3M tape to use so I have it all before taking it apart.

As ZN8 said, its not that bad. It's certainly not going to fall off but it creaks / flexes and rattles a bit before you close the boot.

I'll redo it on a hot day!

If accessories are dealer fit, they fall under the car’s warranty IIRC. Mine was done before I collected new. May differ if done after that point.

It does differ. Years ago I got suspension fitted at Skoda. Genuine parts but because I did it after collection I only got a year and not three years warranty. I fitted myself to save the cost.

You really need a 3M tape that's specifically recommended for affixing car accessories, not just a general strong one. I used 3M Acrylic Plus Tape PT1100T, which is specifically for 'Automotive Exterior Attachment'. Furthermore, 3M states that it has "Proven adhesion performance to automotive paint surfaces, including the newest scratch and mar-resistant formulations". Certainly, my ducktail spoiler and aero cover are both still stuck to my car like sh*t to a woolen blanket...

+1 : I used this to attach mud flaps instead of drilling, and they haven't budged (driven daily, all weather).
