So my younger brother got himself a GR about a year ago, and every time I've driven it, I've been left a bit jealous.

Traded in my much loved 2019 i30N a few weeks back to pick up a 2022 GR Yaris Circuit pack!
It has lived a short demo life, with 2500kms on the odometer. Currently on its winter wheel set.

It was a black one, but I had no intentions of letting it stay black. I decided to go all out with this one!

PWF Saffron yellow
Fully covered with Profilm regen PPF
Topped off with Titan Coatings Apollo

The color is pretty wild, and the camera doesn't really do it justice. It changes quite a lot in different lighting conditions.

Really happy with the result! Massive shoutout to the guys at 3D Detailing in Hønefoss Norway.

That is a great yellow.
Have you considered leaving the bit ahead of the bonnet unwrapped to match the bonnet?
Thanks!
Yes, we went back and forth on that a bit, but I think the "face" of the car looks angrier and more aggressive like this.

Great colour scheme and great pictures. Enter one of the snow scenes in the March photo competition and my money would be on you all day.

Looks amazing. I wouldn’t have thought of leaving bonnet and tailgate black, but it works great.

Nice! How would you overall compare the i30N and Yaris? Somewhat similar ethos but pretty different cars (driven wheels, engine, versatility, ...). I assume the Yaris also puts its power down far better? Incl. in winter conditions.

Hmm, where to begin.

The i30N is a great car, but it also drives quite differently. It has a very active exhaust that rewards you every time you let off the throttle, so in a way, it feels a bit more special at cruising speeds. The GR needs to be grabbed a bit more seriously before its personality comes out.

i30N is quite a bit heavier, so the GRY is definitely more responsive and nimble. Engine revs higher, and there is less turbo lag. Its faster on a b-road, and the suspension is less crashy. Rally DNA definitely there, and the way it handles curvy bumpy roads is something else. From low speed, the GRY just puts down the power, so it would destroy the i30N at the stop lights.

Being FWD, the i30N is only really any fun on dry roads, you will just spin your wheels every time you attempt to put your foot down on a wet surface. The front diff certainly does a good job, but it can't do magic. Close to 300PS on non-dry surfaces just cannot be handled on the fronts only... Obviously the GRY does not share that problem at all.

I also really prefer the steering feel in the GRY, it just feels sharper, less dead in the center, and no torque steer, (which isn't bad in the i30N, but you can feel it, and it got worse when I switched from the original Pzeroes to PS4S).

Things I will miss from the i30N is superior seating position, and the gifts that the exhausts gives you every time you lift your foot, from burbles, to pops, to litteral gunshot sounds... Also, the rev matching was better in it.

The i30N is the perfect all rounder that can take your family on a long trip, and still do a few laps on a track on the way home with zero issues.
GR Yaris is a more focused toy. It is compromised to a larger degree, but a better performance car as a result.

Milltek got fitted today. Need to adjust the tips a bit more tomorrow, maybe pictures then. This will have to do in the meantime :)

Not supposed to wash it for a while due to the wrap, but the slick PPF and the ceramic coating on top is definitely doing a good job of keeping it relatively clean. The color doesn't hurt either with hiding the dirt a bit, I suppose. (Doesn't look quite as clean as in the picture though 😅)
