GR86 Mudflaps

Maybe a silly question.
Should I go ahead with the ceramic coating now or wait for the mudflaps to become available and apply the ceramic later after installing them? 🤔

One of the things I like about the GR86 is that that is has functioning vents etc, and not just for show or fakery. Does say something about AP’s credibility as a company when they advise clients with that kind of statement. The OEM ones fit below the vent opening.

I'd say to just ceramic coat it now. If it's a choice between ceramic coat under the mud flaps and the car gets coated earlier, or on the mud flaps having it done sooner is probably going to be better. Are you applying the ceramic coat yourself or taking it somewhere?

I will probably let the professional apply the ceramic coat
 
They've arrived. I ordered them on Sunday night, so that's a quick delivery time.

They look decent, although the edge of the centre hole isn't that thick. If it's going to break anywhere it's going to be there. It seems risky to leave such a small amount of material at the edge.

Fitted on the car. It's a two minute job to fit them, and you can still slide them in and out with the clips in if you want more of them protruding to cover the side of the car. This is when I realised that not only is the bottom vent hold covered completely, but the top one is partially covered too. They could have less material above the top hole to leave the vent uncovered.

It covers about 1/4 of the top vent. It definitely gives the impression that they really paid no consideration to the vents. If it was intentional then covering both would be better to stop spray through the vents, or leave them both uncovered. The quality of the material and overall fitment is good though.

Ah thanks for the writeup, appreciated. Are they flat or is there a bit of curve to them?

They do look nice but I agree it's a shame that the vents don't seem to have been taken into account.

They're perfectly flat. They flex enough to fit into the wheel arch, but they're still pretty stiff.

Saw these today, claim they only use existing fittings but the hardwear included looks different

Those are going to be nearly £200 if HMRC get there hands on them and add VAT. 😯
 
Nice. How did you get it in the right place? Did you measure, or were you able to mark it through the vent while it was in place?
 
I measured the vent position on the car, made a cardboard stencil using the mud guard and cut out the vent hole, and then checked it against the car to make sure it all lined up properly. Then clamped the stencil to the mud guard and cut it out with a Dremel.


I had to cut the plastic clips off to get the mud guard back off the car so I can't put it back on just yet but after a quick check it looks right.

I really don't understand why they didn't make allowance for the apertures in the first place. Very poor by them considering the vents are there for a reason.

I made some similar front mudflaps for my M2C out of aluminium sheet which worked okay.

Me neither. At the very least an option to have the cutouts included or not would be nice. It's a shame the alternative that includes the cutout is so expensive otherwise I'd have gone for those Instead of cutting these ones up.

I've trimmed the top to unblock the other vent. The only issue I have now is that the rivet plugs that came with the arch guards didn't come out without a fight, so I need replacements. I bought an assorted box off Amazon, but they were the right ones for all of the holes so I need to get some other ones.


So a word of warning, if you're going to trim them don't fit them first. The cross head screw on the rivet plugs was a lie.
 
Has anyone else received the automotive passion carbon flaps? I ordered some on the 16th and haven't heard anything from them other than the order received email.

I ordered mine on the 15th October and received mine 3 days later. They did say that they had a shortage of fixtures, so this might have delayed them shipping them? I'd get in touch with them on WhatsApp though. They've been good at getting back to me quickly.
