Hi everyone, I have a GR86 on order and have had 2 test drives. The car is exactly what I enjoy in cars and I had no issues with the clutch etc. But, the problem is, that it would replace an Up GTI. We have another practical car, but I really like the Up and am struggling with the thought of letting it go . It’s not easy to replace as has all extras, inc pano roof .
I think that, although the cars are not similar on paper, they have the same ethos, light, not the fastest, put a smile on your face and great value when new.
Anyone else changed fro an Up GTI to a GR 86?
If so, any regrets?
What do I do !

I might need to think about something like that Up for Mrs Lady as she’s not totally sold on the GR as we’re “too old”

Loan it me 😬

I was in a very similar position to you, although my car was a very late 67 plate ZC32S Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 in great condition. The high revving normally aspirated one before they went to 1.4 turbos in the ZC33S. I felt that it was everything that I really needed in a road car. Small, lightweight, great visibility, very well turned suspension for UK roads, nice analogue inputs and fun to rev out and chuck around corners. It made me giggle like a kid. I was going to keep it and run it alongside the GR86, as felt that it would be just about the best 3 car setup for for us. Wife has a VW Touran for family / kid stuff, Swift for fwd fun and GR86 for rwd fun.

But with interest rates rising and always trying to be a bit careful with our money, decided that now is not the time to have more cars just for my fun / hobby, so I let the Swift go.

Do I regret it? Only in as much as I would like different cars for different occasions, but 100% there isn't anything that I feel is missing for just having the GR86. Other than a 4wd rally car and fwd hot hatch in the garage / driveway. 😊

I have an UP gti and it is a brilliant car.
It just covers so many bases I can’t imagine ever selling it.
I have what I would call a “performance pack”, with sporty rubber, better dampers and +30hp (* there isn’t an official performance pack, but if there was IMHO it’d include these minor important mods mine has).
Fun factor off the scale!
Admittedly I have simple tastes when it comes to driving (though took a long time and ££ to realise). Find some way to keep both somehow!

And if you really have to choose between these two very different ownership prospects, my personal decision metric would be which would make you smile more of the time.

Not an Up! But I was looking to px my MK2 Leon FR which I wasn't looking forward to losing as I have had from new in 2008. Quick, comfy, spacious and reliable. My mind was made up to keep it when I was offered a very poor px valuation, so for the time being it stays,

I was shocked when I saw the valuation from Toyota of our ePace.. I’ll list it for sale myself once I have a timeline for the GR arriving.. I guess it’s a sign that the market has flattened a little

Could also be with demand outstripping supply and them already having you “signed up” there’s no incentive for them to offer more than rock bottom.
