Hi All , just a heads up to everyone. My Yaris has been garaged since new , 2 1/2 years and the little field mice have decided to attack the soft foam parts in the engine bay this week.

Any had this problem?
Hopefully the parts are easy to replace?

maybe check they haven't nibbled at the ECU wiring loom as that would be quite costly
 
Peppermint essential oil applied regularly can keep at bay.
Check the areas not normally visible as may have nested
 
I noticed mice have been in my car in those areas 😂. It’s driven every week and the evidence on the garage floor seems to be a very recent thing ie bits of nesting material. Probably nesting behind the wheel arch is my guess. I put down a trap and within an hour a mice was caught.
Ive spayed a bit of WD40 into nooks and crannies and wheel arches as a deterrent for now.
 
This phenomenon isn't unexpected, as numerous hoses, foams, and insulation materials used on electrical components under the hood are actually soy-based. Japanese cars, in particular, tend to use such materials, which can make them more susceptible to rodent damage. If you've ever wondered why it's so common for rodents to chew through various parts of the engine bay, this is the underlying reason.
 
It's the reason mine isn't in our garage. One of the reasons we picked this house was the garage. Used it as a storage area after moving, mice got all sorts, handles on screw drivers, they stripped the plastic coating off AA batteries, microfiber clothes etc. Even got a pram we were going to sell. So no chance a car was going in there as it'd be a minefield if they got some wiring (or not knowing if they did).

Since put traps and blocked gaps to the adjacent garages and not seen any since, still not trusting a car in there!

Keep traps down as it's rarely 1 mouse, we caught 2 in the garage before sealing gaps. We've had half a dozen in a week in the loft before...
