GR Supra Manual GR Supra

The ZF8 AT is good, no contest. Very good actually. Better lap times and can handle additional power/torque from tuning. But eventhough it maybe the obvious choice for a transmission, it still doesn’t negate a 6-speed dial on the cards ;)

I wonder if the statement “save the best for last” holds true for the Supra.
 
Yep and the manual in the GRY is so so good and the gearing is about perfect. Even around town you get plenty of opportunity to row through the changes. The pedals aren't offset like some German brands either so it's a comfortable clutch press. The travel is a bit long and the biting point takes a while to get used to but it is involving and fun.
 
Apparently the GRC is going to have a 8AT available, probably not initially though

That will be an extremely interesting comparison :)
 
I think the yaris would have sold fine if it was an auto, but yeah I wouldn't have one. Fingers crossed for a UK announcement next month then 👍
 
It's official then! I hope it helps them sell a few more of these in the UK. I'm going back to a single car garage now so need rear seats but if I wasn't this would be on the list as a Cayman replacement for me (...might still be if I don't get an GR86 allocation!)

Apparently GR doing box themselves cause bmw wanted nothing to do with it. Not sure how true I still fancy the zf8 tho

They might start becoming more of a seller if this is the case.

A £50k manual 6 pot is a rare option nowadays. £45k for a 2.0 manual will also undercut the competition.


EDIT: They finally fitted decent wheels to it, same samurai design as the Yaris and GR86.
 
Wheels look great 😎 Two new colours and not a single photo of them, Toyota excellent at keeping you in suspense 🤣

Looks like autos will be “base“ so reading in between the lines a manual will be at a premium , got to recoup development costs somewhere 😉

Really hope that isn't the case, when there's off-the-shelf transmissions available for that engine why should customers pay for them reinventing the wheel?

Like most things it’s what the “market will pay” if folk want a manual and they can charge more why not? No different to paying nearly a grand for paint that costs no more to apply than the FOC option?

All well and good until the market won't pay and it's a flop, then other manufacturers decide that manuals aren't worth the hassle and we end up with solely autos.
 
One thing is certain, a manual 3.0 supra is going to be rare as hell and will be worth keeping.

God I want all these GR cars!
