Hi All,
This was the first time I've bought a new car and asked for the dealers not to prep it. So this took the edge off the new car buying experience as the car only had its protective stickers removed. But it was worth it when we collected the car from the detailers on Saturday

We are still not 100% sure if it's going to work for us as we had hoped though. Since ordering, my wife has been diagnosed with arthritis in her very early 50's and this was going to be her everyday car and my weekend car. But she's struggling getting in and out of it and her condition is only going to get worse and my suggestion of keeping it and buying her an old Honda Jazz for a couple of thousand didn't go down too well :ROFLMAO:

Greetings to you and your wife and thanks to Toyota to have a manual adjusting seat. Before leaving the car I move the seat fully back and readjust the position before driving off. This way I'm able to enjoy driving my car(s). Let your wife try this procedure, it's worth trying.

Bye for now Fred

Congrats on the new car and the work you have had done, it looks fantastic. I love your thinking/suggestion ‘re Honda jazz 🤣. I hope you’re both able to enjoy your new car for however long that may be, it sounds like you both deserve to have some fun in it. 👍🏼

Absolutely the best decision to have the Dealership leave it well alone! I did the same last year on my brand new KonaN; on collection day I drove it straight from Hyundai Edinburgh to an Auto-Salon in Dunfermline, where it stayed until the end of the week having been PPFd and Ceramic Coated etc. I'll be doing the same to my GR86 too, whenever it arrives ...
Sad news regarding your wife and I only hope that you manage to get some pleasure from your new car and don't have to get rid of it too soon. Maybe buy her a little Picanto or i10 of her own to enjoy - tell her it goes just the same, but it's 'smol' ;)

Lovely photos of your car btw, thanks for posting them! They are the best ones I've seen of the Magnetite Grey and I'm looking forward to receiving mine in the same colour. I'm also now more of a mind to have the brake calipers on mine sprayed bright yellow; it could be another outing to Skidz in Falkirk unless I can find somewhere in Fife to do it. My only issue is that WU (Bristol) registration plate - everyone over in Glasgow is going to think you're a tourist, especially if you make an incorrect turn! 😂 Thankfully I have a GRZ plate on retention, so I'll be using that instead of anything allocated by the online team. Did you specify that the plates should be stuck, not drilled, or did you have them leave the plates off until after the detail? I'm concerned that a lot of places end up drilling into a new panel by default

Drive safe - Maybe one day we'll get the whole GR86 Clan together up here and have a pleasant meet-up for coffee and cake like all real petrol heads do!

Your car looks great - congratulations.
I'm still waiting, but at least it's in the country now - the ship docked on Friday night!
I'm sorry to hear about your wife's condition - I assume you're referring to osteoarthritis, not rheumatoid?

Glad to hear it won't be too long before you get your hands on your car. I've covered just over 200 miles so far and it's such a pleasure to drive, very precise and confidence inspiring.

@midlife_sportscar Thanks for your interest. No, it is rheumatoid from what we've been told so far. She started getting severe pain in her hands a few months back but she's now getting pain all over her body now. We ended up having to pay go to see a specialist as it was going to be over a years wait on he NHS and the next step is a rheumatologist in two weeks. We will hopefully find out then if it is the correct diagnosis but we have our doubts. The last few months have certainly put things in perspective for us.

Thanks @AP756 It's actually not so much getting in and out normally. That's just about do-able. The bigger issue is when she needs to take it out the garage in the morning and put it away at night. Our garage is a typical modern garage and nowhere near wide enough. The width of the GR86 doors mean we are very carefully squeezing in and out a gap of about a foot. I'll take it out and put it away before going to work in the short term and even the long term if it means we keep the 86! :)

We originally ordered the car in Pearl White but we were slightly underwhelmed when we finally seen it in the metal for our test drive. Someone posted a picture of a Magnetite Grey car at the time and we're very pleased with our decision. It's always going to be a personal thing and no question the car looks good in white but we are very happy with our colour choice.

I asked that they just mount our plates with tape which was suggested on here. Oh and yes, for sure a GR86 Clan gathering would be brilliant!:)

Hope this is diagnosed quickly and correctly, anything health related certainly puts things into perspective, but the sooner you know what you're dealing with, the easier it'll be to adapt to it.
This isn't a cheap option, but it is an option:

I've had rheumatoid arthritis for about 12 years (since I was 43).
It developed in a very short space of time (a few weeks) by which time I really struggled to get in and out of the car, lift things, couldn't close a fist to grip anything - it was very debilitating and I really struggled with my job as a field service engineer (lots of driving, lifting, using tools).
I had pain in pretty much all my joints, but ankles, wrists and hands were the most affected.
However, I saw a rheumatologist (luckily through the company private health care scheme) who gave me a steroid injection to 'reset' the immune system and in 24 hours I was 80% better.
Apart from one relapse, my subsequent medication has kept it in check ever since (fingers crossed).
So, there is hope - I was amazed at the difference that one injection made, from almost crippled to virtually normal, literally overnight.

Oh! That could work!! I'm frightened to check out the price but will be showing that to my wife when I get home tonight. Thanks for sharing.(y)

Thank you so much for sharing that. That's the most positive information I've heard and great for her to be able to enquire about the possibility of an injection when she see's the rheumatologist. I'll pass this info on tonight when I get home. What a forum. The best GR86 AND Health advice!! Brilliant, thanks again.

You're welcome - having been there, initially having no idea what was going on and actually being quite frightened for what the future held, I just wanted to share my experience of a fairly positive outcome.

That's our experience so far and I can only imagine what it must have been like in your early forties.

But you have certainly raised my hopes that not only might my wife see a reduction in the pain she is suffering with a steroid injection (apparently the consultant also mentioned some new medication) we also might get to keep the car and enjoy it in the way we hoped.

Thanks again (y)

Also for garage parking. It is light enough to push so when I'm putting bike at the front I wind windows down so I get out where there's no pillar, then roll it back a bit, put handbrake on, close windows. Put something by the wall too that's soft.

Yip, sounds good buddy. We have emptied the garage to try and give us as much room as possible and have a side door which helps a bit. I'll source some high density foam at the weekend for any likely touch/risk points. Hopefully shouldn't be as much of an issue if treatment goes as hoped in a couple of weeks.

You can see our issue. It's a bit tight even without arthritis. We can/t even just leave it out as insurance stipulates that it must be kept in the garage at night :(
