GR Yaris Living with this car when back seats are needed?

Congrats, if you've got the parking space keep the gr and pick yourself up an old volvo or accord estate for sub £1k, bulletproof, and doesn't matter when the child pukes/throws/sh*ts/p*sses or anything else on the seats

My 5 year old is fine and loves going in my gr but I wouldn't want, nor get all the stuff we had in when he was a baby
 
Thanks again everyone! I’m gonna try make it work will use the Yaris when she’s at work for me and the future nufc number 9 and the Nissan for the whole family when she’s off.

Hopefully I can put car stress to one side although I stupidly suggested swapping the Yaris for a Macan hopefully she forgets about it haha. Just need to focus on upsizing house now😭
 
Oh, Macan interior wise isn't as roomy as outside dimensions suggest in my experience, and not much bigger than a Juke. Also GRY aren't depreciating much... So better put funds towards housing... FWIW...
 
Thats our combo, Macan GTS and GRY, agree with Onehp interior space is not huge..
 
You will manage for a time but I will bet a whole pound coin that you will soon realise the GRY just isn't the right car for you and a family:)
Shame the GRC isn't coming as that is exactly why I was predicting it would suit many family people.
I would say if you are also in doubt about getting a more suitable car the good time to sell a 2 door sports car is in the sunny months when the price is still high for you.
It is a nice problem to have and congratulations but family always comes first.
 
I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old. Honestly, having a newborn in the back would be such a pain. Given that newborn child seats are often rear facing and particularly bulky I wouldn't fancy having to get them in and out of the Yaris. I can get away with 2 front facing ones for now but as they grow it will start to be uncomfortable for them and you, as you begin to compromise your seating position. I only take my kids in the GR on the odd occasion and use a 5 series estate otherwise. Forget getting a pram in the boot too. You're a braver man than I if you stick with it! Oh and congrats on your new gift, even if it's still 9 months away 👍
 
Depends how hardcore you are and how special the GRY is to you.

If it's just a 'fun car' ('a great hot hatch') then maybe you should just get something else fun but roomier.

However if the GRY is for you a pinnacle in combustion engined motoring to never be surpassed in its formula ('awd lightweight rally car for the road'), as long as you have a second bigger car in the family you should manage to keep it throughout the kids years without too much sacrifice. It's not like it's a 2-seater, Caterham or an Atom...

Sometimes people regret getting rid of a car the rest of their life. More often, not...

Yep we have an estate for the family stuff like many here.

If it's your only car then have a hard think.

Also congrats, a baby is much more fun than any car (except for the first 12 months, they are hell on earth!).
 
Feels like angel and devil on my shoulders haha. I was sold on keeping the Yaris until read more comments now I dunno. I did drive the in-laws new C Class today and was so smooth and comfy I forgot what it’s like after 10 years of sporty cars. Maybe C43 estate or 340i touring could be good/happy medium for performance, comfort and practically.

I’ve got plenty options though so that’s good. I’ve never had to use kids seats in my life so Dunno what to expect, maybe it’s a good idea to go for some trial fitting to get a flavour of what’s coming at me
 
It also comes down to whether you want the most precious people in your life crammed into a small car with the idiots we have on our roads.
It won't be long before you are looking and thinking about a family sized SUV. I am a Toyota and Ford fan so for me, I would be seeing if I could get something like a 4 door Puma ST or Yaris Cross which I have seen and is lovely.
Look on the bright side. In 20+ years they may have flown the nest and you can buy a sports car again - if they have left you with some money.
 
I’m going to be a dissenting voice here: I currently drive a 2-year-old Range Rover, purchased for the very reasons many point out, i.e. children, family etc. It replaced a manual Golf R VII at the time, and there hasn’t been a day I haven’t regretted swapping cars. The inconvenience of the smaller car was far outweighed by the enjoyment of driving it.

So I’m overcompensating and swapping the Range for a GRY as a daily driver. I have a 6-year-old and an 18-month-old, the little one goes in the back in a Joie 360 and the bigger one in the front seat. They’ll be fine, and now that I’ve got a car that I actually enjoy taking them to school in, so will I.

Don’t worry you will only need a double jointed back to put the baby on the new fancy capsules. In my day you went on the back parcel shelf of a Jowett Javelin!

My 12 year old down to 6 fit in the back seat , no worries. I have sat in the back at 180 + cm tall with bent head for 50 km and survived!
 
I did a test fit of the car seat I've bought, and as I'm still waiting for my GR, I did it in a Fiat 500

It was fine. The seat clips in with zero effort, comes back out by pushing one button. The gap the seat has to move through to get there isn't much bigger than the seat itself....but it doesn't need to be does it. It was far easier than I'd expected, and I've got no doubt the GR will be even easier to get in/out of with it.

If you want to make the Yaris work, then it will.
 
There is no doubt you can make it work, put up with it and get along with it.
I think the crunch will be when you have had enough of that and it starts annoying you and start thinking how nice it would be to have a more suitable car for the family tasks.
Some will love the GRY so much they will live with it but many others will just accept it is a second car or a car for a couple and another daily is the best solution.

I was in the back seat for a drive back from North Wales in a Celica, a good 4.5 hours in the car.... doable. Not great.
 
I just rolled up my full length boot mat, flipped the seats back up, fitted my 3 year olds car seat and thought... this is going to be a fun week without the RS. Fun to drive the GRY everywhere but also fun with me hunching in to get her in her seat but I'll do it! Life's too short haha!! :p :ROFLMAO: 😁

What’s happened to the RS?

It will be fun trying to fit a new born and 2 spaniels in the car😩😂! Bought a cheap shed for the dogs to save the Yaris but don’t fancy putting the little one in that scrapper haha
