When cold is your 86 OK to pull away smoothly and easily?

Dont know if anyone has mentioned this before but I had the same issue and my solution was this "Kando Max" (Sensitivity Max) box from Max Orido.

I have been friends with the kid who runs his shop for years since he worked at the petrol station close to my house (it was like Itsuki and Takumi from Initial D I kid you not). Went in and spoke with Max about it for a while and he personally tuned these boxes for this car with his personal GR86. The drive away feeling and shift changes are massively improved with this little throttle map box. It plugs in between the main wiring harness and the throttle and took about 2 minutes to install.

This was hands down the best mod I have ever done for a stock GR86/BRZ

Looks like he has an English page for it but its pretty pricy overseas. I am sure I didnt pay that much for it.

Sadly with a supercharger and the HKS ECU I am back to the same old jerky throttle maps and I could never get Max to give me the data points so that I could work with HKS to remap thier ECU to match up with his tuning...
I've tried both the Pedal Commander and the Racechip XL5R throttle tuners, but as they just plug into the throttle pedal, all they really do is make the pedal feel either more sensitive, or less. They didn't really improve the actually throttle mapping for me, and I can't see how they could, as all they do is manipulate the voltage input from the pedal. But does the Max Orido box plug in the same way, or does it plug into the throttle body itself under, the bonnet?

Yes. It modulates the throttle directly under the bonnet. From what he explained they are adjusting the throttle directly across all the parameters that the ECU is covering but he focused on the city driving scenarios where the car is most difficult to drive.

He has a you tube video where he explains how he is tuning it
From about 4 minutes in. All in Japanese but I think YT can do auto generated English subtitles now.

I don't really care how it works I just know that I went from jerky starts and shifts to smooth like silk when I put this thing on. But without any laginess or response strangeness.
The only place I ever saw anything strange was at speed on the motorway it would sometimes pump the throttle ever so slightly with super small inputs which you could feel if you were really watching for it. It was a bit like a delay when lightly tapping the accelerator and letting off immediately.

I can believe damping the throttle in this way will work.
