What Jacks do people recommend?

I have been jacking my car with a halfords jack in my gravel driveway, is not the best of Jacks to be honest. I am going to be lifting my car pretty often I think.

What do people recommend? I am a bit hesitant on getting a quick jack system in the garage as it'll mean moving cars in/out every time but it may come to that

I have the Halfords professional low profile jack, splashed out on it a couple of years ago. Much more solid than the cheaper smaller ones they do (takes two people to lift it) and goes under the front and rear jacking points...whereas normal jacks you sometimes won't get under without driving the car on to something first, even with stock suspension.

But...being so solid and heavy, I'm not sure that will help you - I certainly wouldn't want to drag it over gravel.

Then I've got 4 of the Halfords ratcheting axle stands. Again, very solid, and I place them under the sills, using some hockey picks with slits cut in them, to prevent the silly bending. Being ratcheted makes it easier as well...you can jack the car, and then lift the head of the stand up to the sill, rather that a fixed stand where you have to fiddle around placing it as best you can and then lowering the car onto it.

I have to do all this on the road as I can't get the car on our driveway and the garage isn't big enough for a car. I've heard that quick jacks are brilliant though, if I had a garage that I could get the car in, I'd love a set of those.

I've got the Draper Pro Expert Low Profile jack, I've had it probably 5 or 6 years now and its solid, weighs the same as a small tank and is built like one as well. I went for it over the other options as it had the lowest saddle height available at 72mm.

If there's a Halfords Trade Card holding forum member near to you, it would be a matter of them buying the item online (subject to your prepayment) then selecting a local store near you, so that you could go in and collect it (armed with the order number/copy of the text). I've never had to produce my Trade Card when collecting anything, as items have already been paid for and the text confirmation is usually enough for the counter monkeys. Anyway, a viable 'excuse' is that the card holder needs you to collect it ahead of a visit to the area, or that they're away on holiday and asked you to collect it on their behalf - not that it's any of the monkey's business if it's paid for.

l would recommend the American racing jack the made of alloy and are really low so go under race cars or lowered cars easily had mine at 25 years and it’s had lots of use. Still going strong. Quick google says about £250.

Def heavy - I couldn't carry it to the car when I bought it! Very well made jack though.

Anyone can get a Halfords 10% off trade card, just say your a solo trader. I had one for a few years just to make 2 part filler cheaper.

Quickjack owner for +7 years and wouldn't go back, they are not light to move around, but it makes light work of lifting the car up with ease and more importantly you know that the car ain't going to come down on you or roll off to the side, they are solid. The usual, once you have used them a couple of times it becomes second nature.

I have a Clark CTJ2QLP 2, 2 ton ultra low profile jack, great for low cars but most importantly it has the reach to get to the front jacking point but it is mega heavy. If I was to buy again I'd get something of the same size but made from aluminium and less lifting capacity, you only lift under a ton per axle on a GR86.
